Chavas Cantina and Grill — Restaurant in Fairfield

To start, we arrived relatively close to closing time, but we did not intend to have a long dinner so felt decently comfortable arriving when we did.

Overall the food was good. But what we did not like was the service, specifically communication of going-ons in the restaurant. Prices on the menu were not the actual prices, so the meal ended up more expensive than expected and advertised.

Then when we went to check out we were told that the card machine had already been shut down and we would be forced to pay with cash. This wouldn't have been that much of an issue if we were told much earlier that this would happen, but we found out at the very end as we are trying to pay and of course not everybody had cash. We were well aware of the extra charge for using card over cash but would have been happy to pay that. Instead we got no communication about having to pay (more than expected, no less) in cash only. Flavorful food. Decent portion sizes. The only real problem is that it took forever to get drink/food orders in. Not very personable. I think the manager did come out and turn on cartoons for the kids which was appreciated. We were one of three tables when we walked in. There's a couple of Mexican restaurants in town and this one is very new looking. Is a nice place and very clean certainly. I might be too hard on it as I'm from Phoenix but it was just bland to me. Beans, guac and sour cream were all kind of runny like literally thinned out. Wasn't bad certainly and has a nice full menu but I'd only go there if I really want some Mexican food.
