Off the Hook Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Fairhaven

I felt very uncomfortable when I arrived. The waitress was nice and did her best, but service was a bit slow, especially when it came to refilling drinks. The appetizers were good, but I was disappointed with my entrée. I ordered the Triple Threat Taco, which included battered fish, shrimp, and scallops. The food arrived with my friends’ meals, but when I took a bite, the taco started to fall apart. They only used one corn tortilla, and it seemed like the taco had been sitting out after being cooked, so it was soggy. The combination of flavors didn’t work well, either. I ended up just eating the shrimp, scallops, and fish by themselves because I didn’t want to waste the food. My friends were upset and told the waitress about my experience. She said she would let the manager know. The manager came to our table with a stern expression and asked why she had been called over. My friends explained that the food was cold. The manager looked at me with what felt like disgust and said, “Per our policy, we don’t give refunds on food that’s been eaten.” We explained that we weren’t looking for a refund, just giving feedback, and we didn’t want to escalate the situation. I’m not sure if the manager was being condescending because I’m a different race, but I felt very embarrassed. I personally didn’t want to escalate things because I was afraid, but my friends stood up for me—they noticed how the manager treated me. Would I come back? Absolutely not. The vibe was off. Went out with family around rush hour. The wait was pretty long, however it was expected and there were outside games to play while waiting. The atmosphere was great with live music and big tvs showing the Olympics. The food was perfectly cooked and fresh, everything tasted great. However, the service was awful. We had a waitress with black hair that was pulled into a high braid. She had a coral colored "Off the Hook" shirt on and black leggings. Although she was respectful, her actual service was not great. Father asked for a drink and it took her 10 minutes to get it, however we could see it sitting at the bar, waiting to be picked up. We had to ask her again to get the drink. The food took quite some time to come out. When we got it, the eating process was pretty messy so we asked our waitress for napkins. She said yes and never returned with them. We waited about another 8 minutes until we had to walk up to the other staff members and manually ask them for napkins while our waitress goofed off with another table. It was not like our waitress was busy with a ton of tables, she just forgot ours. Even when getting the bill it took forever to come back to us while we saw our waitress maintaining other tables until she finally remembered ours. Great location and atmosphere. View of the marina and boats. Great vibes. Went for lunch at 12 on a July Saturday in great weather and for us there was no wait but we were lucky. Music was a bit loud until the live band began to play and it was even louder once they did.

Food was mediocre. Our calamari was way over fried, that includes the banana peppers. They fell apart and had no flavor. Hot buttered lobster roll looked thrown together without care, and it wasn't bad but was a bit dry anddidn't taste fresh. The bun was tiny and too much lettuce. The triple tacos were below average. We ordered with flour tortillas cause I had a feeling the corn ones would fall apart.

Price was high for small portions. I don't believe the food was fresh and not frozen. The service was just average and a little slow. We got no napkins or utensils until asking after we got our food. Looking around it didn't seem that busy as the locals weren't stopping the staff so not sure why it was slow with so many.

With no other options I'm sure it's alright, seems like it's an OK place to get drinks before or after the beach or a trip on the water. But I'll have no reason to go back or recommend anyone go out of their way. This place could be a real gem with food/service improvements and just lowering the volume just a bit. 2.5 out...
