Yia Yia's Pizza Café — Restaurant in Fairhaven

We stayed in the area to visit family and looked online to see that it was the closest place to our rental and had an extensive menu to please many tastes with many different items to choose from. We try to support local places when we travel and avoid chains or big, corporate restaurants. We ordered dinner for 5 of us and the man who took my order had a lovely low-toned voice that was smooth and friendly. He answered my questions and made suggestions patiently while we made up our minds. We ordered the chicken and cheese quesadilla with sour cream, a bacon cheese burger and fries, sweet potato fries, chicken parm, jalapeno poppers, baklava, and chocolate mousse cake...they said it would be ready within 30 mins, so we drove the short distance to pick it up. We walked in to a hard-working crew, good smells and a dirty floor, counter, chairs, baseboards...the kitchen equipment looked somewhat greasy/dirty as well and I was a bit twitchy about it because of my years in food service, but decided to go ahead based on the way the desserts looked and how the food smelled coming out of there. I'm glad we didn't turn around and walk out because the dinners were very good, the desserts were great!! The fries were ok. We seasoned them up to our individual liking back at the rental. So I don't usually like poppers, but I must declare that these these were delicious! They didn't come with a sauce, but included packets of ketchup so we got some sour cream and mixed with some of our hot mustard and a ketchup packet. That sauce was an A+! I went back for more baklava before we left town and they had homemade rice pudding in the cooler as well. YAY! The gentleman that helped us said his wife made the desserts so we had to try. They were incredible too!...

We ordered pizza to go as our last night vacation tradition. My daughter read reviews online and said they were horrible. I also saw some of those negative reviews but spoke with a local who said it was great so I decided to give it a try. People- believe the reviews! My daughter ordered the chicken bacon ranch pizza- it had 3 pieces of bacon, was super greasy and no ranch. She called to let them know and asked if she could get her pizza remade. They argued with her and told her ‘no’ but they would give her a cup of ranch if she came back. She was so upset she drove back to show them the pizza in hopes they would make her a new one. Not only did they refuse to remake it - they told her she wasn’t allowed to order ANY PIZZA! They gave her money back and told her to leave.

I was so mad that I called them and placed an order for a a new pizza, which they made. Ridiculous.

This was a great find! Pizza is excellent! Crust is more of a fire brick oven taste which was very good. Ingredients were very fresh and that definitely set it apart. Something you would find in a bistro pizzeria in New York City. The place is small but the ambience was on point with the Greek singer on the tv setting the scene. Service was great and attentive. We were just picking up buy couldn't wait to try it before we got home. This is definitely a little more remote for most that don't drive that far down into Fairhaven but if you can iy is worth the trip. Will be stopping in again to try their subs which looked amazing as I watched them come out for...
