This is the best kept secret on Highway 50! Are you kidding me? Prime rib that melts in your mouth? Yes! The best prime rib we've had in eons! Nothing fancy, no fabric napkins, no table clothes, but the food is beyond belief! We made reservations for 7 for tonight. Two car loads traveled from Fallon to Middlegate not knowing what the experience would be. We were more than pleasantly surprised! The coffee is to die for...so damn good! The salad was served family style and was more than excellent! The waitress didn't ask how we wanted our prime rib cooked and guess what? It didn't matter because our plates came out with the best prime rib we've had in oh so long!!! Moist, thick and flavorful! Our wine glasses were large and full...something you don't get at most eateries! If you go on Saturday evening for the prime rib, get there before 6 as it starts getting crowding after that! Also, call in for reservations!!! The band was getting ready to start up when we left, so if you wanted to stay for that maybe you should reserve a room there and enjoy the whole experience!!! We will be back, no doubt! The place is steeped in Nevada history. One person in our group wanted a burger instead of the prime rib and she loved it! It was a home run all the way around! Our 20 year old grand daughter was with us and said she wanted to come back for her 21st birthday to have a real party! So, in our party, the ages ranged from 20 to 86! No one came away with anything other than WELL DONE MIDDLEGATE...WELL DONE!!!! If you don't stop at Middlegate Station, you are missing the best part of the Highway 50 experience!!!! No dessert is on the menu, so you'll have to go to Harmon Junction for their soft serve...
Read moreThe monster may look cute. Along the Loneliest Hwy in America, Hwy 50, lies Middlegate Station. We watched a YouTube video on this cafe/bar and decided to stop by and try the Monster Burger challenge on our trip from Utah across Nevada. It’s a big boy! We technically did not partake in the challenge because we split the meal. However, about 20% of the challengers complete it and earn a shirt. The food was great. I would’ve given an extra star for service, but the burger took them 50 minutes to bring to us. I almost think they lost track of our order. Here’s what you need to know about the size of this monstrous burger. It has (4) 1/3 lbs beef patties, multiple layers of buns, many pickles, many tomatoes, gobs of lettuce, and the condiments that make a monster face. The meat itself is over 1.5 lbs. The burger with the fries will bring the total weight to over 4 lbs. My wife and I, together, couldn’t finish the beast.
I understand that camping here is free and showers are just $2.00. You’ll notice through my photos that Middlegate has gasoline and diesel fuel; no digital gasoline pumps but the ones that I...
Read moreMy SO and I spent several days here evacuated from a wildfire. We couldn't have found a better place to call home. Middlegate Station is composed of a restaurant/bar, gas station, and motel with plenty of room to roam. I would highly reccomend Middlegate Station as a base camp for all your adventures in the area.
The people - everyone we met was accommodating and kind. Over our stay we got to know the staff and felt truly welcomed and looked forward to coming in for meals, drinks, and playing pool.
The food - the food was always fresh and well priced. I loved everything I tried and look forward to coming back for more.
The motel - it's a motel, not the Ritz. It is warm, well priced, and comfortable.
The location - this is the perfect spot for making trips to nearby locations like Austin. However, we had a great time at Middlegate and wouldn't mind just staying there. The stars are incredible, a gorgeous sunrise and sunset every day, and a variety of wildlife.
Overall, we were beyond impressed after coming to Middlegate for a place to rest. We look forward to coming back and exploring more...
