I have been a patron of Harmon's Lunch ever since my high school days (just over 50 years for me, now ), and I return every chance I get. And in that time I have seen at least one change of ownership, but one thing has never changed - the quality of the food. Let's get real, folks. This is a simple 'burgers and fries' place. If you are looking to impress your friends and neighbors with the color (silver, gold, or platinum) of your credit card, this may not be the place for you - It is cash only. If you are looking for exquisite atmosphere, again this might not be the best place for you - it has a stark atmosphere - we're talking burgers and fries, not fine dining. And if you are looking for a tidy wash room facility with attendants and fresh, clean towels, better go before you leave home. But if you are looking for the best burgers available locally, this is your place. This is the real deal, with the genuine items. The burgers are as good as they come (particularly the cheeseburgers) [I think they use Cooper American cheese, but I don't want to give away any proprietary secrets]. The French Fries are home made, cut and fried as you order, and are excellent, particularly with white vinegar and salt (a local Maine favorite), and the onion rings are as good as they come. And they serve REAL frappes, made with real ice cream (remember, a milk shake, at least in New England, contains NO ice cream; only a frappe contains ice cream. Don't believe it? Look it up). And they have an arrangement with local (Yarmouth) ice cream maker 'Toots' for all of their ice cream. Harmon's Lunch offers genuine, real food, with no frills; just flavor. Bring your cash, bring your appetite, and if you come at around noon on a nice day, plan to use one of the outside picnic tables, as they get pretty busy and fill up fast. I cannot recommend this place enough. You simply will not be...
Read moreDefinitely an experience! Allow me to break it down for you:
1.) There is no lettuce, tomato, or most of your usual condiments here. Why? Because they don't want to serve it. Why? Because they don't need to! They have a slogan that says, "We do NOT make it your way, we make it OUR way...". If you want it your way, go to Burger King. However, they make up for it by having "loaded" burger that have a sweet relish that is delicious! They also sell hot dogs, grilled chees, onion rings, fries, etc.
2.) The staff APPEARS to be cranky and gruff, but it's definitely a front. The woman who took my order was courteous and nice, but when I asked for lettuce she made sure I knew what they were all about!
The burgers are a bit small, next time I will definitely get two. But the one I had was DELICIOUS! They definitely have an old-fashioned way of doing things, and it pays off. The fries taste like fair fries, and your order number is a playing card! (Ex. 2 of clubs means you are order #2)
4.) My favorite part, all tax is included in the prices. So when it says you pay $3.25, you pay $3.25. The downside however is that this is CASH ONLY. Luckily I had cash on hand, but beware!
All in all, this was a very down to earth and fantastic was to spend my lunchtime on my way to Portland. As long as you know what they're all about before you go in, you should have a...
Read moreThis place was suggested to me so I drove a little out of the way when I had some free time to see what it was all about. They've got a nice outdoor area with picnic tables to eat at if you wish. I ordered 2 cheese burgers for 9$ and they were definitely about what I expected. Nothing that's gonna blow you away but they were worth the 4.50$ a piece. Average amount of flavor, but the burger did seem a bit "spongy" to me(if that makes sense) would definitely ask for them to toast the bun a little if you prefer that way. I think a toasted bun would have improved it for me but that's just preference I guess. Everyone was very polite and I got my food in about 10 minutes. The lovey woman who gave me my food may seem "snippy" but she's actually very kind and sweet if you give her a chance(she's just a little blunt lol) All in all if you're within 15 to 20 minutes of the place I'd give it a try but any further and it's probably not worth the trip. Definitely will go back when I have the chance and try something...
