My 58-year-old wife is in tears after today's incident at this establishment. (If you could call it an establishment). She went to pick up a takeout order on Memorial Day. We have gone there before and the "DB," the owner, often appeared intoxicated then too. Our son even noticed it.
Today, unfortunately it went too far. While my wife was waiting off to the side for her takeout order, DB picked up a squirt gun, pointed it at her, and shot her directly in the face. She wasn't talking to him or interacting with him in any way -- just standing there. Her face got so wet she had to wipe it off with her shirt.
After DB squirted her, he laughed and said, "You aren't afraid of a little water?" Once my wife got her meal, she said to him "I didn't appreciate you doing that and that is not how you treat a guest." His reply: "I was just having some fun." We do not know DB personally; we just know of him. What owner does this kind of thing??
Normal restaurant owners do not behave like this. DB should be out of business! I would guess that if I would have been standing with my wife, this probably wouldn't have happened. When I called him to discuss the incident, he admitted to what he did, but did not offer a genuine apology. A moment later, he just hung up on me.
DB's food is good, but in all of our experiences traveling and eating around the world, we have never seen an owner do something so offensive. My wife is totally insulted and has been hurt by this experience.
For the record, I was not interested in "free meals," as the owner claims below. I just wanted my wife to be able to buy lunch without having water squirted in her face by the restaurant owner. This was not a "playful incident," "youthful character," or "life on the lighter side," as he writes below. It was an aggressive act that...
Read moreStopped by on our way through the area and ordered a 2 meat meal and a brisket sandwich. The 2 meat meal comes without choice of 2 meats and 2 sides and also a slice of buttered bread. The brisket sandwich came with coleslaw on top. All meat options came with your choice of bbq sauce (varying from savory/sweet to hot + a mustard bbq sauce).
I shared the 2 meat option with my little kiddos while my oldest ate the sandwich. Everyone was pleased. Overall the meat had good flavor on its own, no sauce even necessary. The brisket had a beautiful smoke ring and was tender. The ribs were also great, wonderful flavor, and easily fell off the bone. The Mac n cheese must be smoked and it was good. Different than the home style Mac n cheese we love and make, but it was a nice change and I enjoyed trying something new
The prices are on the higher side ($9 for a brisket sandwich, $16 for the 2 meats meal), but they were in line with what I anticipated for pricing.
I would definitely go back to try more!

Read moreA great discovery! As we drove by DB's on our way to a Allegheny National Forest campground in early September, my buddy commented that it must be a good place because the smoker was in plain sight out front. A mile later, he convinced me to turn around, and were we glad we did. The pulled pork and turkey were well flavored, moist and tender. The sides, buttered potatoes and pit beans, were generous and tasty. As we finished the last bites over a campfire, we wished we'd gotten another meal. In fact, so good was the meal that the next night we abandoned plans to cook for ourselves and drove out of our way into the setting sun for another round at DB's. They were out of turkey, so we substituted chicken and tried another side, though I insisted on having the savory pit beans again to go with the pulled pork. We ate this excellent meal in the onsite shelter and had an good chat with Doug, the genial owner. DB's has given us a new reason to camp near Marienville. Don't let the prices...
