I would give this Ramsey St. fish market 0 stars if I could. A 1star rating is too generous. Before I went into this Ramsey St. fish market on Wednesday June 13, 2018, I called and specifically asked the female that answered the phone did they have any fresh croaker, she said yes they have fresh croaker but they were small. I told her no problem because I like small fish. When I got to the fish market I must say that I was very pleased with the spread of fish that I saw. Not only was I impressed with the spread of croaker that I saw, I was also impressed with every other kind of seafood that I saw. I saw the female pick out my fish which were fresh with clear eyes. . I left the fish market at approximately 4:35 and came straight home. At approximately 4:45 I got ready to wash and season my fish just to see that the fish that they gave me were not the same fish because they looked pale and the eyes were red and they stunk. I immediately called them and the young female that was at the register answered the phone and I told her that I was just up there (she knew who I was) and I had been sold some bad fish. She said "let me get the manager." The guy comes to the phone and I explain to him about the fish and he said that the fish in the bin were previously frozen and that they have fresh croaker already cleaned in bags. What??? it had to be the other way around because the fish in the bin were fresh. I am 51 years old and I have been eating fish all my life and I know what fresh fish look like. Who would put old fish in a bin while they cut up fresh fish and put it in bags? Doesn't make sense. He says to the people in the background that the lady on the phone wanted fresh croaker. We went on for a few minutes about my purchase and I felt like he was trying to stall me out because they close at 5:00. I just bluntly told him that regardless to whether the fish he had frozen fish or not the fish in the bin that she picked up was fresh fish and the eyes were not red. He said "really." I told him I was on the way back up there to get my money. I guess that explains why the two guys and the female that picked the fish were standing so close to the cleaning table. I knew something was odd because it took an awfully long time for three people to clean 4 fish. They were pulling the old switcharoo game. I would suggest anyone that gets bad fish from this Ramsey St. fish market to keep your receipt, take photos of the fish the day of and contact the Health Department. They would rather switch out fresh fish for old fish instead of giving people what they paid for. If you are not going to eat the fish the same day, may I suggest that you still check it the day that you purchase it. People like this can't be trusted and that was the first and last time I would ever deal with them. They should be ashamed...
Read moreMy experience here was so bad I will never go back. I went on the day before Thanksgiving and wanted some spots. When I got there the lady behind the counter proceed to assidt me. I asked her 1st if the fish was fresh and she stated that they were. As we are picking out my fish, we see some that didnt have any eyes. I asked her what was up with those and she stated that they shouldnt be there. So she took the fish we picked out and proceeded to clean them and wrap them up. When I got home I placed the fish in the refrigerator. On Thanksgiving day we got up and opened the fish and the smell lit up the whole kitchen. I was so upset that i had my mouth set for some fish, but I was relieved no one ate them. Sine this was the holiday the business was closed. My mom tried to call on Friday and they were closed as well. So on sat she called to informed them of the fish the lady told her she had to see them. So my mom took the fish back to them. The lady admitted to my mom that the fish indeed was spoiled but they wouldnt be refunding our money back. At this time she calls and yells me all this. I told her that i would go and speak with them. As i get there i wait on the lady that had assisted me on Wednesday. She come up and i started off by telling her who I was and the time I came to purchase the fish. I also asked her if she remember us pulling all the fish out that didbt have eyes and she stated she did. Then as I started to ask why would you sell bad fish she stated that they don't. I stated fish couldnt go bad over night. As im speaking with her the old man from the back comes up with the fish scaler in his hand and hits it against the counter and you listen here we dont sell bad fish here. I told him that i respect my elders but he had better pipe it down. I informed him that he wasnt anywhere near us when we were picking the fish out. He was actually one of the ones cleaning them. Long story short after going back and forth with them they refused to refund my money. So i was out of fish and money. I will never go here again. And if you do make sure to check your fish before you leave...
