-Poor customer service -Worker (or owner) yelled at us, in front of children after an innocent misunderstanding about a seating area
I am not a person that typically writes reviews but I have never been more compelled to write about the poor and distasteful service received by the Vanderwende Farm Creamery Truck at the Rockwood Ice Cream Festival on 6/29/2014.
A group of mothers and children attended the Rockwood Ice Cream Festival on 6/29. While waiting for the 7+ orders of ice cream we purchased, we waited on the side of the truck where we had seen other customers sitting. After waiting about 10 minutes for orders to come up, we sat in the once occupied chairs because thought it was a seating area (prior to us a few other customers had rotated on the chairs). At no time did any worker on the truck inform us that the unoccupied seats were for workers on the truck. A few minutes after our last order came up, an older man wearing a white shirt, white hat and green cargo shorts, yelled “MOVE” to my husband as he was stepping off the side of the truck. At first, we thought it was a joke because clearly no adult would yell such rude remarks to a customer. Once my husband corrected him by saying, “The phrase is excuse me,” the worker continued yell at us telling us to “move”, “this is a rented space”, “we didn’t pay to sit here”…I mean truly yelling at us, in front of our children, as if our intention was to crash their space and as if we did not just patronize the business. I even asked him, politely to speak to us like adults and he continued to yell.
I have never felt so disrespected by a business in my life. We walked away and noticed other customers sit in the same area. While they were asked to move at some point, they weren’t yelled at. To the business, I am not quite sure if your worker thought it was appropriate to react in such an impolite manner because of the color of our skin but that is what it felt like. Prior to us sitting there and after we left, there were white people who made the same innocent mistake we did, yet we did not notice them being addressed as aggressively as we were (and believe me, we waited around to see!). The resolve for next year is to better mark off the side of your truck so your customers know it is not a seating/waiting area and POLITELY inform those who congregate there that it is not a seating/waiting area. No customer or person, regardless of the color of their skin, or what you THINK our intentions may have been should be addressed in such and aggressive and impolite manner. One of the children even responded, “Why is that guy yelling and being so rude.” While I will never support this business and will be sharing my review widely, I hope that you have a serious training on...
Read more20211022 Yeah!! They are open!! Oh my, this Creamery gets pretty busy. They sell jar items, candles, soap, coolers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, cheese, milk, pies, cakes, diggie donuts and baked goods. Their ice cream serving is HUGE!! One scoop is more like 2 scoops at most creameries I have been to, about 40+ up and down the East Coast. Most of their flavors are not what I usually get. Their cherry ice cream is both red and black cherries. I got the strawberry and mint chip (half and half = scoop). I appreciate that they offer half and half since I don't eat a lot of Ice cream in 1 setting, and half half gives me the variety I need to eat more at 1 setting. Might need to let the rest melt and drink it like milkshake. The ice cream has a nice consistency, but needs more filling... chocolate chips, strawberry pieces, etc... I rather get a smaller potion of ice cream and get more filling... just got home... doggie Donut smelled so good - peanut butter, but when I tried to pick it up, it broke, crumbled. So disappointed. My finicky pups don't want it. OH well.
20211019 So disappointed!! I have been wanting to try their ice cream. Finally made a trip to the beach... and they are closed due to staffing. Since my arrival, at least 5 cars drove up, looked and drove away... likely with the same disappointment I have. At least I spotted a couple of cows. I think my girls are more disappointed than me since they...
Read moreEvery now and then work takes me to DE and I always pass this on my way to the labs I work at. One day i finally left work early enough for home (in Baltimore) to make it in before their 6pm closing one weekday. Got there at 5:45pm - the line was at least 6 people deep! I was able to get my order...at least 12 different flavors... a whole bunch of offerings I terms of sizes and cups and cones. As i was going home I grabbed a couple pints. (A pint is $5, a quart is $9... my Root beer float was I think $4 or $5.) Ice cream very creamy... not my fave and I wouldn't drive out of the way for it, but nice to have if you pass by it on your way to your destination.
I thought it was nice touch to actually see the farm and the cows that made my milky delights... but honestly i could have done without the stench of manure (?).
They also sold other farm based or associated items - I think there was soap, Mason jars, merch. Servers were young but...
