I was initially hesitant going here based on the 3 out of 5 stars but after looking at the reviews and realizing most were old and the newer negative ones were not that serious we gave it a try since it was the only option besides cooking in a rolling boat. O boy were we glad we did. The staff were the nicest and they treated the covid issue with immaculate attention. Everything was wiped and everyone were wearing masks thus making it very comfortable. We started with Salt and vinegar onion rings. ( a few are missing in the picture, sorry.. ). Probably the best onion rings i ever had! Chef Chris use crystallized vinegar to bring a slight acidity to them without the sogginess of liquid vinegar. They are served with fresh watercress and on top he drizzle a lemon mayonnaise. Beautiful and delicious!! My main course was the “Champ” burger that was a perfectly cooked wagu patty and topped with a perfectly cooked over-easy egg. The warm egg yolk combined perfectly with the meat and the onion & bacon jam. The top bun had a nice layer of molten aged cheese. Its definitely a knife and fork burger but it was excellent. One of the best i had. My wife took the warm lobster roll. Its nothing like a classic connecticut style warm roll with lobster and butter in a hotdog bun. This was a nice grilled roll filled with a mix of lobster, molten cheese, chorizo, sweetedrops/inca peppers and sour cream. Very different but a brilliant dish. Both me and my wife took sweet potato fries. Im typically ask for my sweet potato fries to be extra well done. Forgot to ask this time but i still got them crispy and delicious Excellent!! For dessert we had the banana fosters bread pudding. It was surprisingly light and airy with a very nice texture. Little light on the rum, banana and raisin flavor I’m associating with bananas foster but we truly enjoyed it thanks to its lightness after a heavy main course. My hat off to manager Scott and Chef Chris for turning this place around and making it a great...
Read moreEach time I ordered from here I ordered to go. So let me start off by saying that the host are not at all knowledgeable of the menu items, ingredients, or portion sizes. This is extremely mind-boggling to me because I feel like it should be one of the most important parts of their job!
The turkey club sandwich obviously isn't smoked turkey. It taste and looks like cheap deli meat, there's barely any sauce on it. You have to look pretty close to even notice it and it looks like they took one piece of bacon and cut it into four pieces to put on your sandwich! Not at all what someone would expect when ordering a turkey club!
(The first time I visited)champ Burger is a cheap Frozen beef patty. I ordered mine with bacon. Also really cheap and then, waste of extra money. (The second time I visited)The chicken quesadilla is tasteless(not seasoned) and a very small portion given the price. (The third time I visited)The steak frites are just a small side of fries and a chunk of low-grade steak (obviously Choice Cut), extremely tough and not seasoned. There is literally only about a teaspoon of the chimichurri on it and when I asked about the other sauce( aioli) that it was supposed to come with that's listed on the menu. Neither the house or the kitchen staff knew what I was talking about instead I was asked to choose from a list. NOT AT ALL WHAT I EXPECTED! ( NOW THIS IS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE: last visit)I ordered pork buns once, and this is where I draw the line. This order did it for me! I will never order from them again, let alone recommend anyone to eat there! Instead of giving me meat, the buns had VERY SMALL chunks of FAT and I say SMALL because even if it were meat it WOULDN'T BE worth the money! It would...
Read moreI’ve been going to the Red Mill for almost 30 years and in the last few years the food quality has suffered greatly. I don’t know what is going on because not only do the overpriced options lack originality, they’re also weird. I ordered crostini with yogurt and tomatoes thinking that it was a yogurt based dip. Nope, it was plain yogurt with chopped cherry tomatoes and a sprinkling of something equally tasteless. I sent it back mainly because the bread was completely stale. On the second try, the bread was much better, but I should have just said to leave off the yogurt and tomatoes. They could have added fresh basil or mint and cucumbers. Anything to give it some flavor. Additionally, I had the garden salad which was fine.
My son had the champ burger and even he was not thrilled. His fries also seemed a bit stale, too. He always gets the champ burger when we are there and I felt bad he didn’t enjoy it.
The service was great, as always. I love that they hire staff from all over the world. Love the atmosphere, too. I just wish they’d get their act together in the kitchen. Maybe bring back some of the dishes from 10+ years ago. Focus on locally sourced produce and meats which are practically in their backyard instead of just on corporate food...
