We travel a lot, and many times we are simply dissappointed with low quality food or service. Every once in awhile, though, we are completely taken back, and this is one of those times. The food here was great, the wings were plump, juicy, and crispy, with plenty of sauce. You wouldn't think that's a big deal but I can make dried out chicken jerky with sauce myself I don't need to pay someone to do it.
The calzone was incredible, real cheese, you don't find that at many places, it wasnt greasy, and was cooked perfectly. The marinara was close to how I used to make it when I was in the business, but the blue cheese needed a little work. I don't know if it was homemade with fat free mayo, or fat free sour cream, maybe it was just light dressing but it was very translucent there was something very off about the taste.
The staff were friendly, and pleasant to talk to. They weren't real busy, though, and I had to walk up to the bar for a refill. It also took quite awhile for the food to come out, but if that's what it takes to actually serve quality food, even bar food, then I'm totally ok with it.
The prices were reasonable, 3 mixed drinks and two beers, with food, came to about 55 bucks. That's exciting to me because you dont get a combination of good quality food, friendly service, and reasonable prices in very many places these days. Sure most people will say how great the food is, every where you look every place has tons of people saying how great the food is even if you can dump the grease off the plate. I think most people are just used to the norm, they accept the fact they will be dissappointed maybe, and are left judging the best of garbage, not here.
With that, the atmosphere was friendly, the decor was rustic, loved the stage, and they had plenty of TV's going. It's not a real big place, but it's a place we'd be happy to go back to if we ever travel that way again.
That said I give it 4 and a half stars. The food did take a long while to come out, and we needed to go get a refill on our own. Not that big of a deal I suppose but the food certainly...
Read moreA solid sports bar in rural Vermont. We arrived after the happy hour crowd had cleared out, so the vibe was mostly locals. We enjoyed prompt, friendly service and draft beer.
The menu features the usual tavern fare plus a broad range of made-to-order pizzas and calzones. We settled on the Caesar salad and a pepperoni calzone.
The salad was good and large - definitely a portion for two - and the calzone was excellent: a crispy crust stuffed with a hot, flavorful blend of ricotta and mozzarella and plenty of pepperonis. This is also an entree to share, although one person could put it away if you skip an appetizer.
The marinara sauce for the calzone deserves its own paragraph. It must be homemade, as it’s just that good: tart without being sour, sweet (tomatoes are fruit, right?) without being sugary. We were enjoying it so much, we asked for a second terrine.
Next time, I’ll try the burger, but that sauce is so good – you can’t go wrong...
Read moreSomehow charged $5 extra on my order. Ordered one of their specialty pizzas. Veggie pizza but didn't have a few of the vegetables on it that were listed on their menu 🙃 Not sure how that happens when I didn't customize toppings and kept it pretty simple. The pizza in general is alright. Needed something quick and the usual places I go to weren't open so figured I'd give this place a shot. First time and will be my last time. Hate to leave bad reviews but if you're charging almost $30 for a really small pizza + app without the pizza being made as listed on your menu and not telling someone you ran out of veggies, assuming that is the case. Can't give it a...
