By the rivers gently flowing - including the Kaskaskia and West Okaw ... supplying another Army Corps triumph... Lake Shelbyville - lies the town of Findlay and the best BBQ on the lake and I dare say Shelby County.
In spite of the smoked pork taco special being offered, I went with their famous Wyatt Earp... the pulled pork on garlic toast with a side of Smokey mac n cheese. The sauce is usually the boss, and the two options were both good, but the star here is the smoked meats themselves... so good... I did have the spicier of their two sauces...but it was fairly. tame as well (which I like). I started eating it like a sandwich, which was good... but it was even better to spread it all out, layer on the bbq sauce, and then mix in a bite of the Smokey mac n cheese with the toast, pork, and sauce with every bite. Yum !
While I was there, Irl was handing out samples of a new sausage that they were trying from their meat distributor. Irl had smoked some up... tasty !
Finally, I had to make room for dessert. I eschewed the cheesecake for what Irl dubs the Buffalo Balls... basically a dozen donuts holes. I had six sour dough and six cinnamon sugar. Yummy! I didn't have to wait for the state fair thus year to get those fresh, deep fried donuts.
I tried this place on the advice of my guitar slinging friend Keith Wood, and it surely didn't disappoint. They also have an enclosed area designed for live music. Rosie & Irl just announced several of the acts that will be performing...primarily local talent.
Come on in and enjoy the ambience and some awesome smoked meats. 🍖
Okay... I had better get back across the rivers before I float...
Read moreSteve Coffman, I see you left a rather bad review on your experience at Rosie & IrL's. I personally was the one trying to seat you and your recollection is not exactly accurate. Within 5 minutes of you and your wife walking through the door, I offered you a place to dine. You refused. There was one group of four seated before you because there was a table for four open up, and I knew the two top table would be available within minutes. And it did become available within a few minutes and I came to get you and people advised you left slamming the door. We do try to seat you as soon as something opens up, and you refused the first option. 20 minutes wait time isn't really that bad, especially at 6pm on a Saturday nite. It was too cool outside to open up the Patio, so we were doing the best we could do. For you to give this review is disappointing, due to our staff and myself strive to make your experience the best we can. Remember, the 20minutes wait time and check out other sit down and dine places on a Saturday evening at 6 pm. I bet most will be longer at a 5 star...
Read moreCame for dinner and took a seat inside. We waited a while for someone to wait on us. One waitress saw us and said she'd be with us after going to another table outside. Very few people were there. We waited a few more minutes until another waitress finally came over to take our order. My husband liked his food, which was pork brisket, but my pulled pork was filled with large pieces of fat. I ate one piece not realizing it was pure fat. Complained about it and showed one of the large pieces of fat to the owner. His reply was that's how it's supposed to be with no apology or show of concern. Pulled pork should not have large pieces of fat in it as you PULL the pork apart and separate the fat from the meat making it meaty. If John Taffer came to this establishment, he'd be livid. They've been opened for a few months, so you'd think they'd be more customer friendly. Definitely won't be returning any...
