I stay at the Live Oak Lodges when I’m at work for 2 weeks at a time. I don’t always have time to go and sit down to eat, but today, I was feeling ballsy!
I intended to go do a load of laundry, and figured this shopping center would be the best place to find a laundromat. To my dismay, there wasn’t one. What I did happen to see was Tasty Buffet Restaurant. I thought to myself, “hey since I’m already here I might as will sit down and have a bite to eat”. Big mistake.
I walked in, and there wasn’t anything too special. Typical buffet decor. The staff was very polite and my waitress was on the cute side.
I order my tea and proceed to the food line. The options more reasonable for the size of the restaurant. All the food looked very delicious and all of it was hot enough that I wouldn’t have any qualms about it’s integrity.
I retrieve my phone from my pocket to peruse Instagram, and my phone suggests that I am at the gym next door and asks if I would review it. Damn you Apple for making me feel like a bigger piece of crap than I already am. You know damn well I’m about to shove this MSG into my face hole! But I guess that’s more of an iPhone complaint.
After my first serving I realized that they serve beer. I figure since I’m already sitting down eating I might as well have one. So I asked the waiter, who is the only one I was able to get a hold of by the way, for one of those delicious Chinese beers. The beer could have been colder and the pint glass they brought could have been chilled, but overall the beer was satisfying. I decided to go 3 deep.
I decided for a second round of food and partook in the chicken with mushrooms and beef and broccoli with the small side of lo mein. By the time I finished my plate I quickly learned the definition of the word regret. At this point my stomach started to gurgle. I have always prided myself in my vulture-esque stomach. I could eat out of a dumpster and be fine. Not today.
My blood pressure began to rise and sweat started to drip from my forehead. I could not get out of my chair and to the register fast enough. I began to pray the rosary. Dear 8 lbs. 6 oz. baby Jesus wrapped in Golden fleece, if you have any mercy for your sheep I beg of you to please not let me crap myself. I am a grown man and I would like to keep myself from that situation.
It is approximately 6 miles from the restaurant to the lodges. It felt like it took a fortnight to return to my room. The doors on these cabins have a keypad to enter and I now know what it must feel like to be a cat burglar trying to break into a safe when the clock ticking before the alarm sounds and the cops come.
I immediately turned into a gazelle on my way to the restaurant. For the next four hours I spoke in tongues as I begged for the end of my life.
Would I ever go back to the Tasty Buffet? Yes, but only for their Chinese beer. I would also like to see that cute waitress again. Will I ever eat there once more? Only if I am ever constipated and feel like punishing myself for any wrongdoing I may have committed...

Read moreThe Asian Buffet is one of the more recent additions to the Floresville restaurant offerings. It's appropriately intimate, rather than the barn-like atmosphere at some big=city buffets. The selections are fairly standard for buffets, and generally fresh and steaming. Standout dishes include Korean Chicken, Coconut Shrimp and Thai Shrimp. The fried fish is generally high quality and cooked just right. Fresh salads and a selection of deserts, including dip your own ice cream. Dinners for adults about $10 each including drinks. Takeout by weight available. Updating nine months later . . . I've eaten here dozens of times now (several times a month), and stand by my original review. I rated it down one star originally because it is a compact eatery, with somewhat fewer menu items than that big-barn big city buffets. And that's OK, because we have easy access to SE Military restaurants just a few miles further from our home. But the food here is very consistent . . . a big consideration in...
