Taqueria Morelia is not some mythical utopia on the edge of the Everglades... or some pop-up auditioning for a reality show... Taqueria Morelia is consistently solid and never EVER pretends to be something it is not.
SERVICE: Is what I expect from ANY dining experience. They know why you are there (in this case... TACOS!!!) and they will make sure you have what you want and need if you communicate that to them and without overwhelming you with interruptions! FOOD: As good on my most recent visit two days ago as it was 10-11 years ago when I first experienced it... Not a fan of tripe or tongue but both are on the menu and if I ever try them it will be at Taqueria Morelia, I trust them that much!!
My mother found this place when she was living down in that area... I was picking my kids up from summer camp and hung out with her for the day... at lunchtime she suggested tacos... I was like, Uh... yes!... and we ended up at a gas station WAAAAAY out on Palm almost to Robert is Here... In my head I'm like, she KNOWS me... what the??? That was years ago now... my kids are grown, I am a grandmother, my mother passed away... and yet Taqueria Morelia remains!!
I get a little frustrated reading poor reviews of places I love and scrolled through the reviews here before writing my own. I soothed myself by going through the reviews of revered places like Le Bernardin, Chez Panisse, The French Laundry to find similar rave 5-star and abysmal 1-star reviews... both ends of the spectrum having similar energy!! (I love this place it is my special spot... to... WAY over-rated, lackluster service...)
Managing expectations is something out of the hands of restaurants!! Sometimes reviewers are just determined to overlook faults in their reverence or to find fault no matter how small but it is no more or less for Taqueria Morelia than it is for Le Bernardin!
Before you go... 1-They are a 1 tortilla per taco joint. My brother likes two I find that to be a waste of a good tortilla!! 2-I am the only one in my family who speaks Spanish we have all been able to dine here with no trouble whatsoever. 3-The salsa/topping bar is self-serve!! They do not presumptuously hand you something with your chips... you...
Read moreWe were coming back from a business trip in the keys and needed to gas up the car and noticed this restaurant. We decided to try it out! I walked in and was awkwardly not acknowledged even though an employee was standing in front of me for about 5 minutes. Finally, she greeted me and asked if I wanted take out or dine in. I told her dine in and I grabbed my own menus and sat myself. After about another 10 minutes we were finally greeted by a server with chips and a tiny cup of salsa. Mixed in with the chips was a water bottle cap (random). After some time we finally ordered. Food came out and was pretty good! We went to the salsa bar to get some sauces for our entree's and there were no cups. I went to our server and asked for a couple and she hesitantly gave me ONE. What is the point of a salsa bar if you can't even utilize it. Might as well take it out. However, the sauce I was able to try was tasty. It was just a very awkward experience overall. Good food, not the best service, probably...
Read moreOk food, rude, hostile, unfair service. I speak Spanish, but spoke English during my visit. I was charged $2 each for extra little cups to hold salsa, while the Spanish speaking couple next to me were offered free cups, and extra salsa when they left.
You have a salsa bar, what does it matter how many cups you have? I only asked for extra cups to try a small amount of the different kinds, not milk your hole in the wall for extra salsa. And why does the Spanish speaking couple get as many cups as they want?
Maybe I you speak Spanish, go check it out, but if you are a US English speaking tourist, you would get better service at TacoBell down the street.
Truly awful service. Came there on recommendation from the Travel Lodge. Was so upset with the experience actually complained to the hotel and recommended they remove them...
