I am here to tell you I just had the worst experience ever at this place! We came in, was seated by the hostess, ordered our pizza, and garlic rolls. Well, within 8 minutes we had our large meat lovers pizza with extra cheese, and without the garlic rolls. The waitress said the garlic rolls were not out of the oven yet. A freshly made, special order pizza was done before garlic rolls? We each took a slice of the pizza, and my wife cut a piece of hers to give to our 2-year-old grandson. We each took a bite, and the pizza was hot on the top, but cold in the middle, and on the bottom. It seemed like the crust and sauce were already pre-made, and he just put the topping on and put it in the oven to heat up. Well, it did not get heated all the way, but the crust on the bottom was tough and slightly burned. So, we told the waitress our concern. She was very apologetic and told us that she would have the gentleman make us a fresh, new pizza. A few minutes later, another lady came over and told us that the man that made the pizza was very quick and makes pizza's that fast all the time. I looked over and saw the manager(owner), whom also made the pizza, was storming over to our table with a very mean look, and an extremely bad attitude. He said that the pizza was fresh, and refused to make a new pizza, but he would take the pizza that we already touched and took 2 slices on our plates, back to reheat. Well, I did not think they could take already served food back and put it in the oven with other fresh food that has not been served to a patron yet. I know I would not want a pizza that was already touched by a customer, put back in the oven with other food or with my food that will be going into the oven to cook. We have been going to this establishment for over 3 years, and to be treated so poorly, and with such disrespect is appalling! We never raised our voice, never asked for the pizza to be removed from our bill, or refused to pay. Actually, we thought they would be sincere and fix the problem by making a fresh pizza like it should of been in the first place. If I wanted an 8-minute pizza, I could of went to Little Caesars! Wow, we were shocked. Then to top it off, THE OWNER CAME BACK TO OUR TABLE AND TOOK PICTURES. To me, that was sick to see him come stand over our table and pizza, to take pictures. What is wrong with this man? This all took place in front of other customers seated all around us, and my two-year-old grandson. We asked them to box our food, we paid our 25.00 bill, and gave the waitress her 20% tip and left. I will never go back to this place ever again, and I will not be shy about talking about my experience tonight. If you want a pleasant evening, and dinner, stay far away...
Read moreBig Bob’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Ocklawaha, rarely disappoints. Went there this past Saturday with our monthly dinning partners Fran & Ed. We did not have pizza! That said, I’ve been on Yelp!, The Villages Restaurant Word of Mouth, Next Door, Google, etc. enough to know that everyone has their opinion of pizza; Chicago Deep Dish, Philly, New York Thin Crust, Sicilian Square pie, etc. So, if you’re looking for really good to excellent New York thin crust pizza you should love Big Bob’s. We got to the restaurant at about 6:45 and almost every table was occupied, however we were seated rather shortly. Steve and Anna are the owners of Big Bob’s and came from New Jersey (originally from Brooklyn) and can usually be found at the restaurant always greeting their customers and asking throughout the meal if everything is ok. This Saturday, Rachel was our server and although she is an original Floridian she definitely had a New York edge that I enjoyed. Ed ordered the Veal Marsala, Fran the eggplant parmigiana and Connie and I split a small antipasto salad and a large Stromboli served with a generous bowl of marinara sauce. Even though the kitchen was busy service was friendly and efficient, servings were large and each of us took home a to go box. We all truly enjoyed our meal. As a side note, I often judge an Italian restaurant by the quality/taste of their marinara sauce. Big Bob’s is chucky with lots of crushed tomatoes and ever so slightly sweet, yum. One thing we love about Big Bob’s are their garlic knots, of which we had 2 serving. Finally, to close a wonderful meal we ordered cannoli. They were freshly filled with the shell nice and crunchy and the ricotta not overly sweet. Big Bob’s is not fine dining but it is a solid 4 ½ out of 5 as a local go to place that will rarely disappoint.
