One of the Best Up and Coming Restaurants in Trinity, Florida
When a friend mentioned a great Mexican restaurant in Trinity I could hardly believe it…Florida is not known for Mexican food but, Cantina Viajero just might change that.
From the time we walked in the vibe was trendy and paid homage to Mexican culture. We were asked if we had a reservation (that made this place feel exclusive). We did not and they quickly seated my wife and I.
Now within 2-3 minutes our server brought by chips and very fresh salsa that was awesome. The flavoring of the salsa felt fresh (did I just comment on the quality of the salsa?). She took our drink order and we reviewed the menu.
The menu was simple and there were a number of items that really leaked our interest. The one that grabbed our attention most was the shrimp and blue crab enchiladas.
We ordered our meal and enjoyed our drinks. Smoked Pineapple Margarita and Other West Coast beer. We took in the ambience and enjoyed the environment.
Our food arrived in a timely manner and the presentation was good. From the first bite I knew this was going to be an enjoyable experience. The enchiladas had the perfect cheese and meat balance and the corn tortilla made it feel like an authentic Mexican meal. Now let’s talk the side of rice and beans. The Carre beans (pinto) might have been the very best beans I’ve eaten in a restaurant.
Now as a Puerto Rican I can tell you those were not traditional Mexican beans. With bacon used in the prep and spices/flavor throughout, they reminded me of the Caribbean. The rice was fresh too and perfectly complimented the beans.
For dessert we had churros! Drizzled with chocolate and ice cream this was the perfect note to end the meal. Warm churro with ice cream is a win!
Finally, I will say the customer service was excellent. Our server Amber was quick, attentive and personable. We met the manager (Jen I believe) and she was awesome too.
To say the least my wife and I walked away excited tonight because we have found a new place to bring friends and family. Bravo, tonight to the...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to check out cantina viajero with two friends. Overall it's was okay. The indoor seating area was very loud making it difficult to have conversation at your table, which in turn made us have to talk louder. The three of us had one margaritas each and and my friends husband had one beer. Our Margarita's were served in an on the rocks glass which was smaller than expected given the $11 price per drink. In addition, The margarita was watered down with lots of ice. It had very little tequila or margarita mix. I actually asked for a bit more mixer which was brought to me in a shot glass to add to my drink. It needs to be served in the appropriate glass. One of us had the burger with fries, he said it was delicious and a good sized portion. My friend and I each had the arugala salad with grilled shrimp. Even though the shrimp was fresh and tasty, the rest of the salad was a big disappointment. It was served with only one grape tomato cut in half, 2 thin pieces of sliced radish, and two tiny pieces of pineapple (no more than a 1/4 inch wide) that looked like they were accidentally dropped in the bottom of the huge serving bowl. The salad dressing had no flavor at all. My husband ordered three soft beef taco's. He said they were okay, he is not a complainer. The taco's were very small and had very little beef, maybe a teaspoon or two on each. I took one small bite, it had no beef so I grabbed a little piece off his plate and it was all gristle. He had the street corn and the beans that were supposed to be served with the entree. The corn was tough and impossible to chew. In to of that, we were charged an additional $4.25 for each side for a total of 8.50 plus $9.99 for the taco's. All in all we were quite dissapointed with our...
Read moreUpdate: came here a second time a few months later with seven people. Had a fantastic time. Food was good, service was great, and the atmosphere was fun. Will be coming again. Though the corn could be better. Lol
Very nice atmosphere, and there was even live music. Almost worth it to go just to have a few drinks and socialize. Unfortunately as a restaurant, they are misfiring and way overstaffed. I came in on a Saturday night right around 6pm. They had 3-4 hostesses, and one sat me. I proceeded to wait 20 minutes before my server finally came to take my drink order. During which the 3 hostesses were standing around doing nothing. They saw me sitting there for 20 minutes with no server, no drinks, and didn’t do anything. Maybe take some initiative? Most of servers were also hiding behind the hostess stand next to the bar, not doing anything either, so it was extra frustrating that I didn’t get waited on. I was almost ready to leave when my server finally came.
I ordered my drinks and food, and she came back promptly with my drinks. Unfortunately it was another 25 minutes before she returned with my food. She never checked on me in between, and I sat there with empty glasses. When the food finally did come, it was good. But not $24 for carne asada good. The steak was juicy, and flavorful, but the rice was bland, and the street corn was rubbery and chewy. Oh, another 20 minutes for her to come back and get my check.
I will probably return with friends to hangout and drink, but as a restaurant, they need to work out the kinks, and improve upon their...
