I really don't want to tell you what is like at Corky Bells. I truly want to keep this my secret. You see, there are truly only a handful of good places to eat in this area. Places that aren't over sterile, bland and boring with decent food. No. This isn't one of those places. Personally, I have very limited mobility, usually I use a wheelchair. For the entirety of the day I had been with my sister Christmas shopping the Friday before Christmas. We were on our way home from all that when she arranged to pick up orders for dinner from her family and they choose 'Corky Bells.' A place I thought I never heard of. As get got closer I started remembering others I'd been with who mentioned it and I knew exactly where I was because I go to church nearby. She asks if I think I can walk in. When we pull up to the door I can see there is a bench just inside the door so I said yes. The atmosphere was wonderful. A small town restaurant feel decorated with a country home seafood scape was an immediate warm welcome. I could clearly see that if I did bring my wheelchair in it would be easy to get around. The chatter and clanking of silverware with the overhead music was encouraging and added further delight to my expectation of filling my hungriness with good food. The greeter said it would be 15 minutes for a table. My sister had barely been seated next to me for a minute when they called us. The menu was perfect, not too many, not too few selections. My selection: fish and chips. The service was good and informative (our server was also being assisted by another so don't be alarmed if someone else offers service too). The fish was light and slightly crunchy, mouth wateringly delightful. The chips: curiously twisted making them fun to eat! The hush puppies were a little over greesy but the flavor was wonderful. Only a 4 star review because I noticed the hush puppies being left on many plates around the diner. I left full and happy. It was a great ending to...
Read moreI hate to say it, but I wouldn't imagine we will be returning.
the only upside was our awesome server! she was sweet and personable. but it was apparent that she was stretched thin. maybe they were short staffed. not sure.
but besides that, the food was terribly lacking in flavor. shrimp scampi sauce might as well been cooking oil with the most blandest garlic bits on this earth. and salt. no other ingredients. the most visually unappealing plated pasta dinner I have ever eaten. even the shrimp...no flavor and rubbery. the breadsticks, were fried? and no flavor at all. the cheese grits? really? again no flavor. and chunks of unleaded, not melted cheese product.
green beans were ok. but definitely not happy to pay 16 bucks for a ginormous entree..but only eat green beans
3 fried shrimp plates we also ordered, no flavor shrimp in a soggy batter. waited to long for New England chowder that was ordered with appetizers, but came atleast 15 Minutes after the meals.
sweet tea was good.
very disappointed we spent 100 dollars on a meal we didnt have to cook....but also did not eat.
maybe step up the recipes? pay attention to presentations, and quality of products. set standards of the foods prepared. quality control.
where was the manager table visits?
you cant expect a few good employees carry the weight of the entire team. this is how to lose guests, and...
Read moreThis was always my Grandfathers favorite place growing up… wish I could relate. This was the second time I gave it a try after not liking it the first time. The NY Strip was thin and defiantly not “serving the highest quality top beef” worthy and had a weird oily substance on top that wasn’t edible. The blackened shrimp had an okay flavor but there was so much seasoning on it, my lips are still on fire. The deviled crab had a fishy taste that tasted wrong. The fried banana peppers were good… and I would have overlooked all of that if the waitress Tammy would have even acknowledged us more than once the entire time. Tried several times to get her attention just to be overlooked. I needed napkins and more sweet tea to wash down all the pepper in my mouth. I gave up and just sat there staring at the floor. By the time I got a drink and napkins the meal was over. We asked for the check please.. not only did she not immediately get our check, she came back 3 times and cleared our plates. The place isn’t at all busy and the table didn’t need to be turned right away.. why the delay in getting our check. I’ve never not tipped 20% on a tip until today. Totally overpriced for the quality...
