If you are looking for a hole in the wall Mexican food then El Korita is the place to be, at least in Zellwood.
I had driven by before but by chance we stopped off for lunch because we were really hungry.
The place looked dead except for the little neon sign in the window. When driving down 441 you will miss this place if you blink.
I am curious about the original purpose of the building. It has sliding glass doors on the sides and it must have had no central heat and air because the air handler is in the main room
The bathrooms are short of make shift but very clean. The tables were all clean and the space used was smart. The juke box is a nice touch. The television is interesting which was playing channel 9news.
We were the only customers but a few locals came in to get tacos while we waited. Two other tables eventually had customers.
The waitress brought us chips and salsa quickly. You could tell it was not the typical store bought stuff. The salsa was not sweet and actually hot,as in spicy.
We ordered a chimichanga and burrito smothered with green Chile sauce. Both plates had refried beans, rice and lettuce/tomatoes. They provided squeeze bottle of sour cream.
Service was ok a little slow, but the food was good. Definitely worth one visit, but I wouldn't deliberately drive a long distance to eat here. Only if I...
Read moreEste restaurante era pero super auténtico! This restaurant is legit. It is quite small and decorated with typical traditional Mexican paraphernalia (sombreros, flag, etc). but once you sit down, begin listening to the music, start eating the food, you'll feel like you've been transported across the border to a Mexican cantina. For me, it was akin to eating home made food cooked by my (Mexican) mom.
The service was great and especially appreciated that they were bilingual and spoke both English and Spanish in case you don't know Spanish, want to practice your Spanish, or heck, in case you're not comfortable speaking English hah! Anyways back to the food. Enjoy an agua fresca or a cerveza, try out their queso fundido, coctel de camarones, fresh raw oysters, frijoles, burritos, fajitas, chimichangas, salsa picante, and well I could go on and on. You can't go wrong with anything on the lunch/dinner menu! Check it out if you're in the area. You won't regret making this detour on your...
Read moreHave been to this spot twice, spread out about 5 years apart. As far as the decor goes, it's a total hole in the wall, but it's clean with great service and the food is fantastic. I went today for the second time. The first time I had enchiladas and they were terrific. Went back today with a couple friends. Again, the service was terrific, and the food was as well. I had the Fish Soup, my friends had beef & chicken fajitas and a smothered chicken chimichanga. All the dishes were huge portions and really delicious. I gave a slightly lower ranking for atmosphere because they had the music blaring so loud, we couldn't hear each...
