I ain’t never cooked paella, it’s an intimidating dish.
I was both delighted & a bit skeptical at the same time when I heard it was on special.
Long story short, it came out perfect, with the rice just barely before done to where it would finish & get to precise doneness in front of me at the table. The muscles were a bit charred on the shell, but the protein within was right where it should be. The crab wouldn’t pull apart in neat chunks, but shredded perfectly to be added to the rest of the dish & the shell easily discarded. The sausage weren’t cut all the way, providing for larger-than-intended savory bites that balanced well with everything else. Shrimp has a tiny window between raw & overcooked, in my opinion, & it was right where it should be. If it was missing anything, it would be big dices of red bell. It ain’t suffered for the lack of it, though. edited to say I found the red bells the next day in the leftovers, my mistake
It ain’t cheap, but enough to take leftovers home for lunch next day.
The boy only ever orders burgers & they nail it here every time. The roast beef sandwich is what I typically order, never been disappointed with it.
We had a great conversation, sports on the tv & the music not too loud for my hearing problems in the background, & both of us surrounded by positive people minding their own in an outgoing kinda manner on another Saturday on the swampcoast just after sunset.
Tristan was consistently a step ahead of us the whole way, our glasses were never empty all the way, & what little we asked her for was brought immediately with professional politeness & friendly wit. She’s a dear.
What great support she has in this kitchen, which is a hard thing to come by in my recent experience. The whole crew delivers every time I come here.
I do wish they’d add the paella to the menu permanently. Otherwise no complaints, & a small town like this is blessed with the presence...
Read moreFirst Visit tonight with my husband and 5 yr old daughter. I found this place on Google after searching for something new to try. We had Ashley as our server, she was pleasant but pretty forgetful. No kids cups available which I found strange (except for one that Ashley said is sticky and unclean if she locates it at all) . We ordered water with lemons all around (had to send her back for the lemons) We ordered the Garlic cheese bread and sauce as a starter. It was brought out by the bus boy with out any serving plates had to send Ashley back for plates once she checked in with us. I ordered chicken parmesan which was pretty good (too much sauce though) and she forgot my salad so I had to ask for it after I already receiving my meal. Only 3 options for kids meals which is odd. No coloring sheet. Ashley brought out a coloring tablet (like an etch a sketch) Our daughter had chicken cutlet and fries, cutlet was a little well done. My husband had the Toga Burger it was cooked med rare he ordered it Med, but he was ok with it. He said it was pretty good,( it did come with tomato which is not noted on the menu) . My husband also ordered the gummie bear martini which was mostly cheap vodka. Atmosphere was just ok they could definitely use a face lift in the dining room and some booths would be nice for tables who have children. It was 110 degrees today at it's hottest and the dinning room was way to warm, (no ceiling fans either) I was so warm I couldn't wait to pack up boxes and cash out. I asked Ashley for 2 boxes only got one had to send her back again. Over all sub part, which was super disappointing because it seemed a lot better from the Google listing and looking over the...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place, and maybe it's just a rough start. This review is always subject to change down the road. Before I begin, please know that the reason I didn't say anything at the restaurant is because it already took us a tremendous amount of time to get anything, which I understand, but I didn't want to further burden the issue.
So.. I ordered the Seafood Cioppino. Presentation was great, but unfortunately the mussels had a raw sewage smell, and from my experience, that's not a good sign that I should eat it. After trying two of them, tasting the sewage, and picking those aside, I went to try the other seafood and noodles. The other meats were cooked well. The noodles and broth, however, had little to no flavor at all. My personal recommendation for this dish going forward is to season it with some fresh parsley, basil, and thyme, along with a mix of asiago and parmesan topped on this dish. Perhaps another pinch of salt would suffice also. My wife's ribeye sandwich, she said was okay, but unfortunately there wasn't a lot of meat on it at all. I ended up buying her more food on our way home. My mother's liver and onions were superb though. That was probably the best dish on the table.
Again, I could see that everyone was busy, and it looked like the place was severely understaffed. I'm certain the owners had the servers doing things in the back that we couldn't see as well. As far as the chef is concerned, I really hope they take my advice into consideration. I would still like to try more things, but I'm afraid to risk it at potentially...
