Our first time at this restaurant was for lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Upon arrival everyone was very welcoming & friendly. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the view. Waitress was amazing. We ordered and the food arrived promptly and hot. After taking my first bite I discovered what looked to be a hair in my seafood portion of my dish. I did have corn on the cob on my plate as well. I thought maybe it was a fiber from that. I had to dig this out to discover it was in-fact a long piece of human hair. I quietly explained the issue to the waitress when she came over. Who was very apologetic. She offered to remake my dish. I politely requested a different dish as I was disgusted at that point after having already eaten out of that contaminated dish. The waitress walks off and here comes another woman. Who I can only assume was the manager. She never introduced herself or offer an apology for what had just happened. She put my plate down on the table, waves her hand over top of the dish and tells me, “so this is all ok”, meaning the vegetables, “and we will remake you the scallops”. Taken back by her approach, I told her no, Ive already spoken to the waitress and requested something different. She walked off. That is never ever how a restaurant manager should ever handle a situation like that. At this point Im so beyond disgusted. Waitress comes over and begins to ask me to confirm my replacement dish so she can put it in the computer. I politely told her I was no longer hungry to please just remove the original dish from my bill. She apologized and agreed. Here comes the woman again, she bends down to my level and into my personal space and says “so you don't want the food now because we have started it already”. At which time I stated, nope. My husband chimed in and told her we are good. She walked away. Waitress returns and offers to refill our drinks, we declined and requested the check. The waitress throughout all this remained professional and polite. I did go into to detail with her about exactly what happened with my dish and how I dug the human hair out from under the scallops. So theres no way it was hers or mine. I did express to her that her “manager” and her demeanor towards me and the situation was the reason for my decline on my replacement meal and the reason we wouldn’t be returning...
Read moreMy meal was disappointing but the service and atmosphere were great.
Bottom line up front:
Pros: Atmosphere - The location provides a great beachfront atmosphere. When they have live music it's a great touch. Service - Our waitress provided great service for our table. She made sure that we had everything we needed for the meal and was friendly and personable.
Cons: Food -My meal was a little bit lackluster. I was not impressed with the Grouper Sandwich or the Dirty Rice.
Explanation: The most important thing about a restaurant is the food. I had the grouper sandwich. It had a nice sized portion of grouper however, it was little overcooked (not tender) and not as well seasoned as I would have liked. Looking at the pictures of the sides I was torn between Dirty Rice and Yo's Cajun Onion Strings. I absolutely love onion rings but being from New Orleans I'm a sucker for some good dirty rice. I chose poorly and got the dirty rice. I was extremely disappointed because dirty rice where I'm from has meat in it. Usually some kind of ground beef or pork. There was absolutely no meat in this dirty rice. :-( On the positive side, it did have a nice hit of spice to it. I sampled some of my daughters french fries and their french fries are on point. Crispy and flavorful on the outside tender on the inside. French fry perfection. I had a mock mojito which was a nice touch to my meal. It was perfect and had all of the flavor of its alcohol namesake (minus the alcohol).
The location is perfect in a great place for a sunset dinner on the beach. Great live music was playing which added to the terrific atmosphere.
The service was great. Our waitress was very kind and attentive.
Overall: As I said you go to a restaurant for the food. Everything else just adds to the experience. I was a little underwhelmed with the food But overall JB's Fish Camp was a nice outing. I recommend it for the overall experience but there are other local places I would recommend to get a great...
Read moreJB’s Fish Camp is an absolute gem in New Smyrna Beach and one of the best spots to enjoy fresh seafood with an authentic Florida vibe. The location is unbeatable—right along the lagoon, with stunning waterfront views that set the perfect backdrop for a relaxing meal. Whether you’re dining indoors or on the outdoor deck, the atmosphere is casual and inviting, with live music on weekends to make the experience even more memorable.
The seafood here is as fresh as it gets. The jumbo fried shrimp and fried calamari were absolutely amazing—crispy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Each bite was packed with flavor and made it hard to put my fork down. They also offer a variety of non-seafood options for those looking for something different, so everyone is covered.
What sets JB’s apart, though, is the attention to detail in everything they offer. Not only is the food incredible, but they also have a charming little shop selling branded clothes and merchandise. I couldn’t resist picking up a super comfy JB’s Fish Camp T-shirt and a hat—they have a great selection of high-quality items that capture the laid-back Florida lifestyle perfectly.
The service was fantastic, even during busy times. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right. For those looking to add a bit of adventure to their visit, their kayak and paddleboard rentals are an awesome way to explore the nearby waters.
All in all, JB’s Fish Camp is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Amazing food, stunning views, great service, and even a shop where you can take a piece of JB’s home with you. Highly recommended for anyone visiting New...
