Definitely a place that is geared for the locals. I love dinning at places on the water and Outriggers was within an hours drive and I hadn’t yet patronized it. I called ahead for ten people at 12 noon, Karen was very polite and reserved a large outside pavilion for us. (I think they only offer outside dinning) We were promptly seated and asked for drink orders. We also ordered three appetizers, fried pickles, green beans and onion rings. We received fried pickles and two green beans with no explanation about the onion rings. Non of us liked the sauce that was served with the fried green beans and asked for ranch instead. By the time the ranch arrived we’d already eaten the appetizers. Yes, it took that long to bring the ranch. We finished the appetizers and told our server we were ready to order. She assured us she’d be with our table shortly. There wasn’t much of a crowd to justify how slow service was. Hannah, our server was a wonderful girl that ran constantly. We finally ordered our meals. I opted for Cod-were out of cod. Ok, I’ll have the grouper bites-were also out of grouper. Uh,ok, come back to me, I need to re-look at the menu. My grandson asked if they had mushroom soup-no we don’t. He asked for another soup-nope, we don’t have that either. So now I ask, what is your soup of the day? -we actually don’t have any soup available. We kinda wondered why it was even on the menu…… We finally had our orders placed. My choice, which remember was my third choice since they were out of my first two choices, was blackened Maui. This was the most non-blackened, extremely over salted dish I’ve ever had. I scraped off the salt, otherwise the Maui itself was cooked perfectly. We finally get the our bills and was super shocked to see that we were charged a buck fifty for each refill on Rootbeer, Iced tea and Sprite and was also charged .50 cents for each ranch that was brought to our table long after we’d finished our appetizers. What a waste….
It was my birthday and I love buying t-shirts from places I dine at. I travel for work and have a lengthy collection of t-shirts. We was being assisted with the t-shirt when two ladies came in front of us and tell the employee that they need shirts. The girl stops helping us and assist the two ladies that bragged about how their coolies had been worn out and their t-shirts were all faded. Reassuring my suspension that “locals are a priority”. My sister commented on how rude this was, the ladies didn’t care and the employee continued to help these two that literally walked in front of us as the employee was taking back a t-shirt from me to change sizes. We waited several minutes for them to make up their minds. I said forget it, this is just so rude, let’s go!!!!!! Would we return! Nope, which is a shame because we were stoked to have discovered this cozy place on the water. But with all the extra charges, poor service and lack of courtesy and a LOT of other dinning options in the area, there is no...

Hidden Gem Alert
As I go gadding about this county on an eternal search for good food, I have been extremely lucky last month to stumble upon two Hidden Gems. The first one mentioned last week is a gastropub. This week's restaurant is hard to qualify, but I would call it a dive. This joint is located inside of a marina and there is limited table seating; however, there is an enormous bar. The downside to this amenity is that there are a ton of power drinkers sucking on cancer sticks, but the food is good enough to fight through the loathsome smell. I actually positioned myself in front of the beer tap, which was actually strategic - no one could sit on my right and there were only two empties on my left.
My server, Karen, doubled as the bartender and she was hopping while providing excellent service. She is the exact type of server I love, the haggard older server who appreciates the money and likes being there. She is friendly and engaging, and she knows what's good and what isn't and isn't afraid to tell you so.
When I see fish tacos I will always order them. When I indicated I was interested in them, Karen gushed about the tacos, saying, "oh honey get 'em with the redfish - we pull 'em right out of the river." When the tacos arrived, let me tell you, they were a sight to behold: three perfectly seared redfish. The tortilla was grilled, which is a big plus in my book. Most New American restaurants emphasize the salsa, but here that is not the focus of the dish - it's all about the fish. Seared to perfection, these tacos are stunning, full of flavor and taste - they are a real winner.
I also ordered the oysters. Karen claimed they were also locally sourced, which I can't confirm with certainty, but I can tell you they were cooked properly. They were served with accompanying sweet potato fries which are hand-cut and drizzled in a savory honey sauce. Yes, you read that correctly - savory honey sauce - and it is fantastic.

Read moreWent here for lunch with friends on Easter Saturday. We ordered the smoked fish dip to start ($13.95) and were not impressed, it used to be so much better. I guess they are buying it from a different supplier, I cannot believe it's from in-house. For our meal we asked for the Ribeye Cheesesteak ($14.95), fried mushrooms ($7.95), and the Grouper Basket (not on the menu, but the cod basket is $12.95). The only food we received that was not overcooked was the Cheesesteak sandwich which was solid. The fish was inedible, over fried till it was like jerky. Even the onion rings and mushrooms were over cooked. I've never had fried mushrooms left over at the end of a meal, I guess there is a first time for everything. I'm sad this happened to us. I always look forward to eating at the Outrigger when we visit the area and I hope this was a one off bad day, but it will be a while before I feel comfortable in recommending this place in the future. The saving grace was the atmosphere and the server, she was wonderful and went out of her way to make us feel welcomed. It's too bad...
