On a positive side, the staff was great. But unfortunately, quite a few negatives. First, the collard greens were RIFE WITH SUGAR. Just unbelievable. With 50 million known diabetics in America, this is just crazy and so unnecessary. Collard greens are NOT supposed to be sweet like a piece of pie. THEY WERE NOT EDIBLE. My money down the drain. Second, the collards seemed old. They were extremely dry & stuck together. No juice at all. My guess is that these collards were left over from the prior Sunday and were put in the microwave to serve on Friday. Never in my lifetime have I ever had DRY collards. Next, the mac & cheese was likewise dry and seemed old. Probably more food left over from 5 days before. If you do decide to eat here, DO NOT GO ON A FRIDAY when you may get 5-day old food.
Next, the hush puppies were overcooked, hard and burnt. There is no excuse for this. Puppies are supposed to be a lighter golden brown color. All they have to do is cook them on a timer like McDonald's does with their french fries. Then they would always be perfect. Not only were they overcooked, but the batter was bland & tasteless.
The cake-style cornbread was also dry & crumbly. Clearly, it was missing something - probably butter. I can make better cornbread using a box of Jiffy. In their effort to save money, they are skimping on needed ingredients. But when will businesses learn that customers would rather pay higher prices for great food as opposed to paying still high prices and end up throwing the food and their money in the garbage????? AND, losing future business. You end up with a one-time customer and HORRID reviews.
The ribs were so-so. Very small, short, very EVEN SIZE bones. When we buy a slab of ribs from the market, they never look like what they served. They must be taking long bones and chopping them in half. Sauce was nondescript & VERY LITTLE of it. If you want to specialize in ribs, then you need to have some banging sauce, AND a choice of sauces such as mild, hot, spicy, etc. There is far better sauce on the supermarket shelf.
Of course, the prices were not cheap & I would never return only to be ripped...
Read moreThe absolute BEST fall-off-the-bone ribs. They have award winning fried chicken that reminds me of what KFC tasted like 40 years ago, before they became the fatty, grease soaked, mushy “original” that they are today. Henri’s fried chicken is juicy (because of the chicken’s juices, not grease) and the coating is crispy & flavorful, and as I stated previously, with a hint of that “other places” days of old, “secret recipe”. **Fried chicken tip to keep it crispy while in transport: I always remove the lid from the bucket or box, fold a paper towel and place it on top of chicken & replace the lid. This keeps the condensation from the hot chicken’s steam from collecting on the lid, then dripping back onto your crispy coating as it cools, making it mushy. The paper towel will catch all that steam & protect your coating. I’m super picky with wings, and Henris have, by far, the best around. The brisket is great, but runs out fast. They’re only open 3 days per week, (Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 11-7) so it helps to make a conscious plan to order from them. They also have a wonderful catering set-up. I haven’t used that end as of now, but wouldn’t hesitate to call them to cater an event for me. Oh, and the home made desserts—you MUST try the pound cake. It’s so buttery & dense, it feels like one slice weighs a pound! Bottom line:...

Found this location and called them and they said that yes they were opened so we drove a little out of our way And are now glad that we did the food was absolutely delicious as. It was just funny that I asked to speak with the chef because I wanted to Give him some advice and I thought that I was about to lodge a complaint. So that I But after reconsidering I am not going to allow the half an hour travel time from my house to here to hinder me from coming back again.
