Surprisingly Diverse and Flavorful Stop! Sunset Hwy Bar & Grill (aptly named as it is off the Sunset Hwy, otherwise known as the 26) truly exceeded my expectations with its unique blend of culinary offerings. While the exterior might suggest a classic American grill, there's a delightful surprise awaiting those open to exploring. I even overheard a charming little mix-up at a nearby table where a couple was convinced they were serving "mole," and hence some patrons may need some cultural training as to getting to know the delicious Mexican sauce, not the furry, garden-dwelling kind! First, you have mole (pronounced MOH-lay), the fantastic Mexican sauce. This is a rich, complex sauce with a blend of chilies, spices, chocolate, and often nuts or seeds. It's savory, a little sweet, and incredibly flavorful, often served with chicken or enchiladas. It's the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and savor every bite. But, even as the server patiently described the dish, the dining in party was just not willing to hear about it, though it was obvious the staff was very proud of their creation. They immediately shut down the option when they heard it contained chocolate. Then, the server offered another one of their specials of Green mole which did not contain the chocolate, but once again they had stated that they cannot get past the word "mole." So, when someone mentions "mole" in a restaurant, you can be pretty sure they're talking about the delicious sauce, not the critter. I hope people will be more culturally humble and sensitive. All that to say that it speaks to the underlying Latin influences that genuinely elevate some of their dishes. I really appreciated the Latin flavors that brought a much-needed depth and complexity to the menu. We have tried various items including their burgers, biscuits and gravy, the mole, nachos, chicken fried steak, Eggs Benedict, salmon, etc. all very delicious and great complimentary side dishes as well. Perhaps my least favorite is when I tried the ribeye, and while it was a touch bland and thinner for my taste, but still generous portioned and the incredibly reasonable price (a steal at the current price of $24 overall!) made it an undeniably good deal. But where they really shine is in their versatility. For those craving something more traditional, their classic American breakfast options are spot-on, and their burgers are a fantastic choice if you're not in the mood for the spicier or more Latin-inspired dishes. Overall, Sunset Hwy Bar & Grill offers a very good blend of different foods and options, making it a great spot whether you're looking for comforting classics or a pleasant culinary adventure. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I also appreciate the offering of various different salsas and hot sauces which is always fun to try out whether to burn out your taste buds or just add a little enhancement to the food. I'd definitely recommend checking it out! Glad they are...
Read moreI was initially a little hesitant about visiting Sunset Highway Bar and Grill, since the name made me think it would be more of a typical bar atmosphere. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was more of a welcoming restaurant. The interior was clean, well cared for, and had a comfortable feel that set the tone for a good evening. We arrived at 8:15 p.m., and to my surprise, the restaurant was still open and accommodating, even with closing time only about 45 minutes away. The host greeted us warmly and, despite our party of six not having a reservation, he seated us without hesitation.
I ordered the Diablo Burger, which came out flavorful with just the right amount of spice and a generous portion size. My wife chose the Philly Steak, which was hearty, well-prepared, and satisfying without being overly greasy. Our boys each had the kids’ cheeseburgers, and those turned out to be just right for them — simple, tasty, and filling. The food overall was cooked well, arrived promptly, and came out hot and fresh.
Overall, our experience was a very pleasant surprise. The service was friendly and accommodating, the restaurant had a clean and inviting atmosphere, and the food was fresh and flavorful. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunset Highway Bar and Grill for families or anyone looking for a casual but quality...

Food was excellent, prices are affordable, can definitely recommend and will be back. Update: went here again, this time for a late lunch / early dinner, and the food and service were again excellent. I continue to highly recommend. Best place to eat between North Plains...
