I recently moved to the Houghton Lake area. One of my new favorites is a place that recently opened it's doors for the first time. The unexpected treasure! La Guera is the roadside cantina you only hope to find. Family owned and operated, LaGuera features all of your favorites from south of the border as well as some home style fare. I sat and was waited on by a charming young man named Junior who did an absolute bang up job starting me out with a Coronarita and got chips and salsa. I absolutely love Mexican food, so choosing was tough because it all looked great. Then I heard the sudden explosion of a red hot platter steaming with the promise of fajita meat and veggies pouring on it. I ordered the Steak and Seafood Fajitas, the name of which I can't remember, but it had steak, shrimp, crab and scallions in a heavenly blend. Generous portions, family atmosphere, very reasonable prices. You get it all and just a bit more at LaGuera. Go try them out, you'll be glad you did!

Solid three at best. Place was prettt empty when we went. About 6 on a Friday. Food wasn't terrible at all, just was mediocre. Wouldn't drive out to LC just to come here but its not bad. Service was off. Waitress had to be new and thats ok. But when an empty beer sits for the entirety of the meal, its lost revenue. Other than to drop off food and then ask if we needed boxes there was no check in. Kinda feel the flautas were frozen, kinda had a freezer burn after taste. 4 entrees, water, lemonade, horchata and a beer was 81 and some change. Seemed super steep for what it was. Sorry just not impressed.

Our food was amazing. Hard to find good food like this near Houghton lake. What a wonderful gem of a place! Food was very fast to come out and tasted wonderful. The service was exceptional, our waiter was very attentive and kept coming back to make sure we were till enjoying our food. First time I ever left a $20 tip on a $50 order. Definitely deserved that tip! Great experience, I will be back again.

Be careful with this restaurant they will scam you.. It said $2 tacos on the sign I realize now it says happy hour however before I saw that I confirmed with the server and she said yes they were $2 so I ordered 12 Tacos for carryout, she doesn't give me a bill or a price or anything until the food get cooked and bagged, then she tells me the tacos were actually $4 a piece, which double my bill super shady but good for herbecause there was noone there im sure she didnt wanna lose her opportunity to make the only money she gonna make today. The food wasn't even that good tbh not at all authentic, they used ground beef which is honestly not normally how authentic Mexican tacos are, we also got chips and salsa and she gave us a small ramekin of salsa. I laughed when I say it lol i would never go here again nor would I recommend it, the waitress was...

Loved there food. Always ate toquitos with ground beef and today I ordered same as usual but it came out with shredded not ground waiter took it back to ask boss man and he said he can't make it with ground beef even though that's how I always get it not only did he not make me a new one with ground beef he also said he's not taking it off my bill. It was also happy hour for tacos and got charged way more for the tacos. Read your bill also herd some bad thing there doing too if you don't tip well.... don't recommend this place bad service. I do feel for my waiter as she said I wish I could take it off the bill for you but scared he will see she took it off. Do...
