The Blue Ribbon used to be one of my more favorite places to dine at over the years as I have been at Ft. Bragg AD military and as a civilian for over 16 years. I have eaten all over post as a soldier way before these were calling themselves restaurants or Bistros, or (?) As a soldier we simply knew these buildings as Mess halls or Chow Halls. So times changed, names changed..Fine...but here at WAMC over the years it seems the food quality has diminished and prices have increased. Now the argument will always be " Well for this same price of meal how much would you pay going Off Post for a meal". Well for starters Off Post I won't stand in line to order food off a cafeteria line versus it being brought to me fresh to order. Secondly, I can tweak my food to my tastes versus a cookie cutter 'This is all we got' style. So do you see now how we already took like $10.00 off a standard meal ? Am I not being fair and realistic? **Now to readers that may not be familiar with dining on a military facility : IT IS NOT A ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET. Everything you eat must be paid for!! Even a cup of ice is not free. I often get this from persons that have never dined on base anywhere and somehow they believe that military dining is all inclusive all you eat ..All day..Everyday!! Not True! Active Duty SM are not even entitled to eat all they can eat. Surprise Mom... (The psyops dining had a buffet) And the one point I hate to expose IS the Blue Bistro serves lunch meal leftovers for its dinner meal!! This is unpardonable! Food establishments are forbidden from serving leftovers. This is why so much food is thrown away each day. But Blue serves leftovers at the same price as it did for the lunch meal. (WhistleBlower) And many civilians patronize the Bistro #1 for simplicity sake and #2 as former service members we love the environment. Plain n Simple. We love standing in line because we love how this subconsciously reminds us of our time...
Read moreWarning- Rant (this mainly applies to meal card holders)
Place is an absolute joke, especially so on the weekends. I’ve been here so many times where they stop serving food half an hour or more early. Tonight I was informed that rice is a starch (rice is a grain), so I wasn’t able to get chips as well (which is a awful substitute when they don’t have actual starches on the menu). Some of the workers are awesome but no matter how nice I try to be some just have terrible attitudes. The breakfast serving sizes are comical, I get two pieces of the saltiest tiniest bacon in existence and watery scrambled eggs. I’d give them points on having a wide selection of vegetables if they knew how to prepare them anyway other than to boil all the taste and nutrients out of it.
I’d be completely fine with this if there was another realistic option for meal card holders on the weekends but there...
Read moreThis is the best DFAC I have been to, I pay between $3-$4 and get an enormous salad as an entree and I make it so it always comes out good, they accept Cash, Card, and Samsung & Apple pay which I think is super cool for a DFAC. I'm married collecting BAS and I still go there for my lunch brake, and sometimes dinner if I am on Fort Bragg anyway at the PX or commissary. The hot lines are as good as any other DFAC but sometimes has more options just because it's bigger. During breakfast it usually does not have any fruit options besides juice so I don't eat there...
