Let me start off by saying the servers were great and kept a positive attitude while handling a large group in the heat! My group is mainly service industry so we are very empathetic towards servers and know how to roll with the punches.
Overall the experience was a let down because mainly the space was oversold and under delivered and honestly very misleading to get my booking for this “private” event. When we originally discussed my inquiry for a party of 22 I was told there was space on the “air conditioned” portico and that we would be able to do the full menu because there was no option for a “non private”. This was really the first misleading point but I quickly wanted to book because a “private” event on the “air conditioned” patio sounded fabulous! I told my guests we had the patio to ourselves and that it was air conditioned. This statement definitely made me a liar but I made the mistake of not drilling down with more questions.
A “space” shouldn’t be sold to be people under the guise of being private when there was nothing private about it. I told the waitstaff when we got there that I was under the impression I rented the whole patio. She replied with oh no that full rent out starts at about 5,000. That information was never given to me. What it ended up being was uneven tables by the railing of the patio in the sun with 22 chairs scrunched together when I informed the coordinator a few days before that i would have 24. I was demanded to set a food and beverage minimum and everything be on one check for this???? Like I said my guests are mostly service industry so they roll with the punches but honestly this gave more ease to the staff than the customer. I then asked the wait staff to pull the table out because they gave about a foot and a half space to pull the chair out before you ran into the wall and to add another table so my guests weren’t sitting on top of one another.
For the next misleading point was the “air conditioned” patio. That is a joke. I wrote in earlier in the day to ask if the sides were down and the air condition was running and I was told, “the cold air was blowing.” A maybe 4 foot high very small water cooler on the side of the room that was being moved around because people were melting doesn’t qualify as “air condition” when in actuality it’s just a larger fan. Luckily my table rolled with the punches and knew from the beginning when I told them it was air conditioned, they didn’t trust it.
I ended up spending almost 2,000 dollars for a subpar evening because things were not made clear. Im not asking y’all for anything in return and know I signed the contract and have paid my bill but I’m really disappointed in how this “private/non private” event was handled yesterday. I do take responsibility in not asking more questions but do think y’all are selling something that is very misleading and y’all should be more open with customers going forward than being vague and leaving things open to interpretation only to get the booking.
I hope this is received well in that it’s not an attack but more...
Read morePlease if you look at one review, please read this one. We made a reservation on a slow Tuesday night and we’re seated immediately. Our waitress came to our table and introduced herself, but we could barely hear anything she said because of the blaring club/house music and because she was very soft-spoken. The place seemed really nice because of the chef behind the restaurant and the fact that a lot of the ingredients are from their garden/homemade. We had the breadsticks for an appetizer, and they were alright. They reminded me of the mozzarella sticks they used to serve at my high school cafeteria. We were then served free frozen aperol spritz shots and told that everyone drinks them when the bell is rung. Cool idea and nice that they’re free but everyone in our party, including me, are currently trying to stay sober/were driving, so we felt pressured to drink them because they were just thrown down in front of us. Our waitress should have asked us first if we’d like to try them, to which we would have politely declined.
We were excited for our food because it sounded good from the menu, but we were so disappointed in the quality of our dishes. We all ordered pasta—the bolognese, the gnocchi, and the lemon pasta. Every one of our dishes had either diced shallots or onions that were uncooked and crunched when we chewed on them, which just leaves a disgustingly lingering onion taste in my mouth as well. I had the gnocchi, which literally tasted like canned ravioli. The bolognese was well seasoned and probably the best dish our party had, despite the raw shallots. The lemon pasta sauce was good, but some of the pasta was crunchy from being undercooked.
I had a bite of the lemon pasta that my friend had ordered, and immediately chewed on a hard piece of plastic. It was disgusting and the cherry on top to an already bad night there. The manager or whoever dealt with the issue was really nice and understanding about the situation and that pasta dish was comped.
Overall, our server seemed so unhappy to be there and talked too softly for us to hear her well. Additionally, coming from someone who has extensive serving experience, she was very new to the restaurant and serving in general. She explained the pasta dishes poorly and also picked up our dishes BEFORE asking if she should take them away. That’s a no no in the food and beverage industry, you never want to make a customer feel rushed to eat or touch their plates before asking. Gemelle, please properly train your staff.
Atmosphere looks cool from the outside, but it can only hold up unless it’s coupled with equally good service and food. Sadly, it’s another restaurant that puts up an Instagram-able front to attract you in.
It’s a couple hours later now, and my stomach still hurts from dinner. Please, please don’t go here so that they can actually see that they need to listen to reviews and feedback to...
Read moreTonight was my first night at Gemelle and I just got to say I was very disappointed. We made a reservation because we knew how busy it can get and was seated promptly upon arrival. However, things just went downhill after we were seated. Our server took our orders and gave us drink and we sat there waiting almost 2 hours just waiting for our salad and entrees to arrive. I watched other tables get there food who came after us, but we decided to not pay much attention to it as the kitchen could just be backed up. I asked the server as to why our meal was taking so long. She replied that “corporate was here” and that they were ordering a lot of food and the staff was a bit antsy, but that should not have been an excuse to ignore us. However, as a server myself, I think the customers come first and checking in on them from time to time wouldn’t hurt. Without customers there would not be a corporate. So after 1.5 hours our salad and fish were brought out to us, but our pizza was no where in sight. We asked the server and she said she would check, then she just disappeared. When she came back we asked her and she said if anyone came to talk to us and we said no one came. Then she proceeded to ask the manager and was told our pizza was brought out to the wrong table. No one gave us a heads up so we waited even longer and another manager came and said it was a mixup and took it off our tab which was nice of her to do. When the pizza came out we have already lost our appetite from having waited soo long. The food was okay, nothing memorable but our experience that night was ruined. Upon asking the server for our check, she asked the bar tender to bring out our ticket but with miscommunication, he brought out the check to the wrong table and yet again we sat there waiting. I was angry after waiting 15 mins that I stood up and went straight to the bar to pay where I was able to tell there was no communication between the staff. The staff here are young and their actions that night was very unprofessional especially for this being a nice establishment. Sadly to say I will no longer be dining here again and am sad because I was supposed to go eat there again for a birthday party. This was just our experience that night and does not reflect anyone else’s, however, I just wanted to voice my concerns to the staff, corporate, and future customers about our experience so that it does not...
