My mom and I went last night for the first time and we were not disappointed. EVERYTHING was delectable. I was doing my happy yummy food dance all through dinner and dessert. The owner, Sage, was very pleasant, friendly and helpful with telling us about the menu items and specials. I had the panko crusted shrimp that was served on a bed of rice with roasted veggies and was very satisfied. There was also some sort of cream sauce drizzled over the dish. It may have been Alfredo, but I forgot to ask. The entrees are served with the starch of the day, so that's where the rice came from. So if you go, it may be with something different. It had a lime tang to it and almost the consistency of risotto; a little creamy. The panko was perfectly crispy and the shrimp had a great bite. Not overcooked or rubbery at all. The roasted vegetables were tomatoes, brussel sprouts and mushrooms. I don't eat any of those so I let my mom try them and she stated it was really good. For dessert I had beignets. They were warm, dusted with powered sugar, slightly crunchy on the outside and perfectly soft and tender on the inside. A perfect finish to an incredibly tasty and satisfying meal. Sage is from New York and he had cannolis, so you know they had to be on point. They were! While sitting there my mom and I were already discussing who we were telling about this place and bringing back. I was also already planning my next meal. I'm definitely looking forward to trying more dinners as well as trying breakfast and brunch. During dinner it's BOYB and kids under 10 eat free. There are some places I tell people (in my it's so-so high pitched voice), "The food was pretty good. If your're in the area and have time it's worth a shot." Not this place. I'm saying (in my firm, deeper and convincing voice) "GO! Make time! Hit that area and get some goodness in your life! You will not...
Read moreThe husband and I tried this place after seeing the great google reviews. Well, I'm here to tell you, either those were false reviews or those folks have very low standards.
First off, this is a walk up and order type of place. Those aren't my favorite usually, but only my preference. The young man who rang us up was very nice. The service wasn't the problem.
I ordered the 3 Pancake Plate, which, according to the menu comes with 3 pancakes, an egg, bacon, AND fresh fruit (see picture of menu). I don't eat pork, so asked for 2 eggs instead (he said they didn't have a pork alternative). The online menu does not match the in-store menu. My husband pointed out to me that there is a turkey sausage option listed online. You'll see in the attached photo that their definition of fresh fruit is the tiniest strawberry they could scrounge up and cut in half. I won't lie, this gave my husband and I quite a chuckle. Now, I know there's no way to really church up pancakes, but it's generally a rule of thumb not to start with a ton of grease on the griddle. Same goes for eggs. I paid 10 bucks for something that looks like a college kid made it on his contraband dorm-griddle, y'all.
My husband got The Bandito (tacos) and said they were pretty flavorless. His major gripe, though, was the $5 biscuits and gravy he ordered. The biscuits were wafer thin and seemed canned. He also is shocked at the lack of sweet tea! This is good ol' Texas!
Finally, what was with all the paper products? Now, I'm really not all that "green conscious", but this seemed excessive. We were given paper cups for our water and coffee, then our food was served on paper plates. Along with being not very environmentally friendly, it makes for a sad presentation. Again, we paid $28 bucks for this meal; I figure a little glass...
Read moreI saw the “Under New Management” sign was hanging on the window and I knew we were in trouble. I chose 3 tacos and salsa: 1) Bacon, egg, home fries and cheese 2) sausage, egg, queso fresco and jalapeños 3) skirt steak, egg, home fries and jalapeños. The sausage one is not pictured, but it did have half of a breakfast sausage patty and egg only... The eggs were incredibly salty, but it was edible. The bacon taco had a ton of “jalapeños” on it, even though that’s not what I ordered. Folks, these were pickled chili peppers that were bitter, salty and sweet with a mini kick. Also known as the worst peppers I’ve ever eaten in my life. We took them off. We grabbed the family style hot sauce off of the table next to us and dumped it on the other tacos. The green salsa (pictured) was just salt in a cup... The “home fries” were hashbrowns... Poorly panfried and mushy. I gave the skirt steak one a try, even though it looked more like thinly sliced pork... It had a roast beef type flavor and that’s when I determined they put lunch meat on a taco... I gave up on the tacos at this point and luckily my main squeeze ordered me french toast. Finally, carbs with crystalized cinnamon... Nope, it was warm bread that sat in a pan for a few seconds. At this point, I went and refilled my coke and just shook my head. I couldn’t take another bite. At least they didn’t have Pepsi products. For...
