The Red Caboose — Restaurant in Forward Township

I have been a customer of this family-owned establishment for 25 years or more. (I am 31 years old at the time of this review.) Located just past the West Newton exit on 51-S, this place hasn't changed much since I was a kid.

Red Caboose has the best hot dogs and kielbasa in the area. Their cheese fries get me through a craving for Original's when I can't make it into the city. The food is always fresh, the staff is friendly, and the cash-only line— even when it's out the door— is quick. They have a simple menu because it works. There is a soda fountain with free refills and a condiment station with diced onion, relish, pickles, mustard, and ketchup. This is a roadside establishment, so you can eat at a table, in your car, or take it to go. I love sitting down to eat because the vista across the highway is a beautiful, picturesque field.

Really? You're giving hot dogs five stars?? Yes. First off, inexpensive. Me and my boys eat like kings for less than twenty bucks. Secondly, they are cooked to perfection on their flat top. Next is the fries. They are always hot and crispy and give you an option for delicious gravy, cheese or chili cheese. Plain are good too. I personally miss their burgers and let them know all the time. They also have kielbasa, kraut and hot sausage. So, I don’t like hot dogs but my boyfriend introduced me to Red Caboose in his home town and surprisingly, they were really good. Awesome prices too! Their hours a kinda weird, they’re open Tuesday-Saturday from 11-4pm. A small place you order inside, eat outside, they have tons of tables & parking.
