We happened to be travelling through Fostoria (re-routed on our way home from a larger city) and through a random Google search we found Kemosabes. We knew literally nothing about it. We're not overly familiar with the town. Seeing it from the parking lot, we were honestly expecting not much more than a local bar with a questionable kitchen - boy were were pleasantly wrong! The food is great and the service was fabulous!
For starters, I noticed right away that the bar and restaurant are both very clean and well lit. I'm extremely leery of restaurants that turn their lights extremely low (like they are hiding something). Everything inside is in great shape.
Our waitress was extremely helpful explaining the menu and chuck wagon specials as well as made great suggestions. We never had an empty glass. I HIGHLY recommend the cornbread appetizer. We all 4 had different meals and not one of us was disappointed. I wish I had saved room for dessert.
All in all, I would purposely re-route to eat at Kemosabes. I was a "secret-shopper" for many restaurants just like this in Columbus, OH for years. In my paperwork I was required to find negatives about a restaurant. I would struggle to find anything negative about Kemosabes. I imagine I'd have to put that there were a few potholes in the parking lot. That's honestly the only criticism I can come up with. Simply put, our first experience will keep us coming...
Read moreThe server was very friendly, but food was horrible. Our bill came to $260, we had a party of 10 which I understand is a good size group but there was only like 6 other people in the restaurant. The steak was ridiculously small for the price. We Ordered nachos with out jalapeños, the waiters came out and said they had to make new because they messed them up. Then when they brought them out they still were wrong. Mine and my husbands burger was cold and burnt up. My daughter cheeseburger was burnt to nothing, they apologized and made a new one. When they new one came out she took a bit and it was dripping in blood. They were out of some food items. The garlic cottage cheese we won’t even go into that discussion. My one daughter didn’t like her food so she asked for some rice to try but we were getting ready to leave, and they were going to send out home cold with us.I previously owned a restaurant and would have never served the food they did this night. They did make up by giving a brownie dessert and the one kids meal free. Four of the people at least left not feeling good. I’m not a person the write reviews or bash on other restaurants but the food was horrible not like it was a few years ago. More could be said but I will...
Read moreKemoSabes has been through numerous owners and names. Originally it was the Black Cat.. the place to take your best girl. Known for its relish tray of garlic cottage cheese, 3 bean salad and corn salad with fresh made garlic toast. Steaks were their signature dish. High quality food, a well stocked bar and the infamous Men's bathroom mirror.
We ordered beef manhattan and a fish dinner. The salads came out first and were fresh and delicious.
Let me start with the beef manhattan. I was hoping for fresh pot roast, home made rich gravy and fresh mashed potatoes. What I got tasted like Steak-Umms thrown on the flat top and covered with canned or powdered gravy. The texture was coarse and tasteless. The potatoes were slightly better. The grilled sourdough was pretty tasty.
My husband got the 3 piece fish. He managed to choke down a piece and ate his fries. He said it tasted like Gortons fish sticks.
I really want to give this hometown historic a great review but cannot. Service was ok.
Bathrooms are really nice. Handicap accessible.
If you try this place stick...
