Came here Tuesday (7.22.25) for lunch, and sat at the bar. A bit awkward as my feet were atop the foot rail and pressed up against the bar. The seats were such that the bar top was considerably away from you that you had to lean forward to eat. Stephanie was my server. She was busy having to work a large section, and had little if any help. My lunch began with the fried mushrooms. They were very good. I commented to Stephanie that they were like eating popcorn — hard to stop eating them. My entree was the burnt ends platter with barbecued baked beans and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was good, but is there meant to be small kernels of corn with it? I didn’t bother to ask. As for the beans, they were good and uniquely made. Only plaint is they were a bit soupy. The disappointment came with the burnt ends. Burnt ends are meant to be golden treasures cherished by the chef or pit master. Low and slow, and cooked for a long period of time. What I got were pieces that ranged from moist and tender, to chewy, and hard and dry… in a sauce I would guess as being Sweet Baby Ray’s. I took what was left to go; saving room to try their peach and blueberry cobbler. What arrived shortly after my check was a dessert unlike any cobbler. It had peaches and blueberries. They were set in a gelatin cut in square form, and topped with a puff pastry dough that was soft. The ice cream was good. I would never call it a cobbler. I paid my check using my credit card. It charged a small fee. One thing that annoys me are tip suggestions. I don’t tip after tax, or any additional fees applied. I tip accordingly to the service, food, and pre-tax total. Wrapping up the restaurant is clean. No noticeable odors as some have claimed. There’s plenty of parking; only mind the road construction. And the bathrooms were well kept and tidy; with tiled floors and walls, and painted ceilings. This was a learn and live experience. I wouldn’t say the barbecue is comparable to Lil Miss or Caldwell County BBQ. It is what they make of their barbecue. See...
Read moreWe met the hostile manager Mike at Dillons at the world wildlife zoo today. When we arrived the hostess was a little rude to us and they weren't very welcoming behind the yellow rope they have strung across the entry, she asked where we wanted to sit, when I told her she said we couldn't sit there abruptly, so I was slighlty rude right back and I told her to "ok then just seat us near your finest trashcan." Then this guy comes to the table a moment later and asked if I have a problem, I said no, then he angrily accused me of using the f word to the hostess which was a lie. Rather then de-escalating things, his idea was to escalate things, bad idea Mike. On our way out I asked his name and told him I was going to complain about his conduct and attitude, as we left he told me "good luck with your complaint, I'm the district manager."
Mr Valverde, If this guy is a district manager in your company, you need to replace him with somebody trained in customer service and fast. I know it stinks for employers right now and it's impossible to find good help but your staff from the top down have an attitude problem. I will admit I wasn't right mirroring your hostesses rudeness but as you know I'm not your employee and your staffs lack of training isn't my problem. The scary thing is if Mike is one of your seasoned employees, the employee pool at Dillons must be drained, scrubbed and chlorinated immediately.
To the public beware of this place and save yourself the bad experience of wasting your time and money at Dillons until they revamp the staff and their training, till then let them keep the yellow unwelcome rope closed and you keep your money. Plan to bring a picnic lunch, cold drinks and snacks for your crew and don't forget to bring quarters for the animal feeders! Then enjoy your day and you won't have to buy their overpriced food and drinks! Now if you don't come prepared and if you absolutely must eat something, try the feed pellets from the zoo feeders, the service is much better and it only costs 50...
Read moreI had an extremely frustrating experience with the hostess at this restaurant. My family and I were with a larger group of Cub Scouts at the park on 3/26/23 for a big zoo trip, and we had four people - my two boys, my wife, and me. We arrived at the restaurant to find that a larger group, which was part of our Cub Scout group, had already been seated outside on the patio area. The patio was nearly completely open at the time, with only about 25% occupancy.
Since our other group was already sitting down, they invited us to join them on the patio. We asked the hostess if we could be placed outside on the patio as well, but she informed us that there were no immediate 4-person tables available. She said they would figure something out and needed five minutes to do so.
After waiting for 15 minutes, three groups that had walked in after us were immediately seated on the patio area, while we were still waiting for a table. A group of six walked in and asked for the fastest seating option, and they were immediately placed in the patio, that made me irritated. I asked the hostess what was going on, and she replied that they were taking a 6-person table.
At that point, I gave up. Although I understand the importance of optimizing seating, this was terrible customer service. They could have pushed two 2-person tables together or given us one of the 6-person tables. They told us it would take 5 minutes, but was going on over 15, and considering the other group was already seated and would be getting food soon, I decided to leave, super frustrated and annoyed.
To be clear, my disappointment was not with the food, but with the service and the lack of attention from the hostess staff. I had a terrible experience and will not be returning in the future. I should not have to sit there and be a jerk constantly to get something very...
