We were unlucky enough to eat lunch at the Grand Canyon Lodge Dining Room (North Rim) on June 27th. We initially tried to order the Brisket but was warned by our waiter that it was sent back to the kitchen several times in the past week due to poor quality. We were also warned that they don't have any french fries - only home fries potatoes from breakfast. It sounded like they were trying to recycle the leftovers from the breakfast buffet. So we ordered the Grilled Chicken sandwich and also the Navajo Stew.
about 25 minutes later, the waiter came back and said our meal should be ready soon. 10 more minutes later, the waiter came back and said they didn't make the Navajo Stew today. I changed the order to just a burger in addition to the Grilled Chicken already ordered. 5 minutes later, the waiter came back and said the stew was being made and it should be ready in 10 minutes so we stuck to our original order.
I've uploaded a photo of the food that was brought to us.
The chicken sandwich supposed to come with pepper-jack cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion on a Brioche Bun. What we got was 2 slices of morning leftover wonder bread and chicken with NOTHING ELSE. We confronted the waiter about it and he said right away that he KNEW the order was wrong and told the kitchen and the kitchen said to SERVER IT AS IT ANYWAY. What a horrible attitude and incorrect thing to do. If the kitchen KNEW The order was wrong, and the waiter KNEW the order was wrong, WHY DO YOU STILL SERVE THE FOOD??!?!??!
We asked for the missing items and they finally brought out lettuce, tomato and avocado but no bacon.
The Navajo "stew" is more like a soup and it's super salty and tasted like somebody used too much industrial beef bouillon with gristly beef parts and hardly anything else.
It was by far the WORST meal we've ever had. We complained to the manager and all they were able to do is make up all sorts of excuses about how the weather created a rush and they have new people in the kitchen and etc. The table next to us didn't get their food for an hour and their orders had missing items as well.
This is an embarrassment to be representative of the food at our US National Parks and Aramark should be revoked of their license to operate at the US National Parks until they improve both their food...
Read moreWe were there for a day trip. We went in yesterday July 21 2024, around 4:30p to eat dinner. We walked up to the hostess, we were not greeted. I said hello, and stated we wanted a table for 5. We were told she could only get us in at around 8:30p (4 hour wait)! I looked over her shoulder and noticed the restaurant was 90% empty (only a few tables by the windows were seated). So I simply stated that I didn't understand, the restaurant is empty, and there's nobody waiting, is there reduced capacity, or some other reason? She stated she has all those tables reserved and that she's just doing her job and that I'M INCREDIBLY RUDE FOR ASKING! I was so upset, that I just walked right out with my family. I don't mind if they had all the tables reserved, then just state that, but to tell me I'm rude for daring to ask, was just unnecessary! We went to a gift shop near the parking lot, where Donna from the shop noticed we were a bit down and asked if everything was OK, and I explained the situation. She encouraged us to walk back and complain to the manager. I really didn't want to be THAT person, but I doubled back once we shopped. It was 40mins later and the same 90% of the restaurant remained empty. To add to it, the group who had come in behind us without a reservation, were seated. I started believe we were discriminated against due to having young children. Perhaps they were worried they would disrupt the peacefulness of the restaurant? However, our children are used to behaving in fancier restaurants. We never did put in the complaint, having waited over 10 mins to speak to someone at the lodge front desk with no luck, we decided that we would rather drive the 2 hours to our next stop and eat there. This was our first time at the grand canyon. It really...
Read moreWe stayed 4 nights at the North Rim, and most of our meals were in the Dining Room. This is 5-star dining, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon. Food and service were excellent. Food in ample portions and wonderful taste. For variety, we frequently opted for the breakfast buffet. No lack of menu items for children. Crystal Creek Trout was my dinner favorite. But it was the wonderful, courteous service that brought everything together. All the staff were friendly, interactive with children as well as adults, knowledgeable, and helpful. It was fun and interesting to chat with them, sharing our daily experiences and learning more about them and their experiences working at the park. Dining room staff often pointed out things of interest as we viewed the canyon from our table. Staff were very personable and our conversations enjoyable. Thank you to Mitch, Matt, Kayla, Lorri, James, Bayan, and others who made our dining experience at North Rim so very special and memorable. Our entire stay was...
