I played on a Tuesday in mid-August, 62 degrees, just a whisper of wind & mostly cloudy skies, under the twilight rate. I'd always wanted to play the Country's highest golf course (approx 9,300 ft), to really see what elevation did to the carry of my ball (I found it to be about a solid club less than usual).
Although you're located high in the Rockies, the course is exceptionally flat and, thus, very walkable. If the altitude isn't really bothering you on the flats, a pull-cart is perfect, of which they have plenty.
I've read that because it's only a 9-hole course that things can get pretty slow. Fortunately for me, the course wasn't packed. Nonetheless, it wasn't fast by any means. That said, being in such a beautiful area, having some extra time to enjoy the views was fine by me.
The course is very short (6,117 from the back) & I thought played a little tougher than its back tees' 68.6/120 rating/slope (I'm a 3-4 hdcp). The holes seem to be designed to either offer a challenging tee-to-green with an easy green set-up or an easy tee-to-green with a crazy green set-up.
At the end of the day, I was very happy I got a chance to experience our Country's highest golf course. If you're not expecting a Cherry Hill CC challenge or service, it's absolutely a few hours well spent. (I played 9 & shot 38, which I was...
Read moreDon’t waste your time or money at this course. Greens keepers and front desk were losers. This is a total tourist trap. 3 people got stuck on I70 because of a fire and road closure. Front desk made the single pay for all of them. Zero understanding. The course was empty and when the single asked to play with the group in front of them front desk said absolutely not and threatened them if they were to join. The course is in horrible conditions. The greens are a joke and the tee boxes are unplayable. It’s the “highest course in the US” but the horrible design forces you to hit 8 or 9 irons off the tee boxes. Seriously don’t waste your...
Read moreAs the highest golf course in North America, I understand the challenge of maintaining a high altitude course. However, this course has rates that do not reflect the quality of the others around. The "muffin top" greens can ruin your perfect tee shot. Small, fast, and ridiculously hard, the greens will challenge you and are clearly the gem of this course. But, the course does not provide water for golfers. They do provide bottled water for a dollar. That is wrong! All in all, play it to enjoy the views and for bragging rights but don't...
