Nonna Maria's is a small, attractive, owner operated Italian restaurant in a remote and peaceful setting. Well off the beaten path, with great sunset views from our table. The menu has a lot of interesting entrees and appetizers and the wine list is long.
Service throughout our visit was both friendly and excellent, what I fondly remember from growing up in a small town in Michigan.
There were 4 in our party, we all tried something different, and we all much enjoyed our choices. The spaghetti and mussels got rave reviews.
I tried the calzone, something I've avoided for 30+ years since I was a slow pitch softball player in Chicago where we always had it, along with several pitchers of beer, after every game. Imagine cold, all-you-can-eat Calzone with warm Old Milwaukee beer. I learned to hate both. Since then however, I've learned to love micro-brewed beer and so reluctantly decided it was time to try calzone again too. Much to my surprise I really loved it! There are 3 choices for combinations of ingredients and additional ingredients can be added on request. I had the pepperoni and cheese and added onions. I will be back to try the other 2 choices. 😉
We chatted with one of the owners during/after our cannoli and learned the family started out with a food takeout business in 1997 and then had the attractive building that is the restaurant built 10 years ago. ...
Read moreI'm going to give it 4 stars because three out of the four family members loved it. Toppings ingredients are excellent! We ordered the deep dish which was totally different than I thought it would be but it was delicious. If there is a way that they could lighten that crust up and not be so heavy it would be perfect. Chicken wings tasted delicious and crispy but they were really small. I would definitely try to upgrade to bigger chicken wings and they would be perfect. Even if they had to up the price that wouldn't matter. But overall I don't think if you take your family there you won't disappointed. I would definitely recommend the place! I'm going to be in the area for a month so I can't wait to try their pasta. I will update my review after I try it.
Update: they lost a customer and that was me😪 I have been told they have been in business for 26yrs and would rather stretch the truth than actually listen to customer feedback. SO DISAPPOINTING 😭. They have enough customers. They don't need anymore recurring customers like me. I have ordered from them 2 time a month for 6 months. Food wasn't bad but nothing great. Just a fair honest review. I would not support if you have values in...
Read moreMy husband and I came in this evening to enjoy this week's emailed special. My husband asked if he could merely substitute out the Gorgonzola sauce for a simple red sauce due to allergens. The owner refused to do this, which frankly was quite shocking. I would think that an owner would gladly accommodate a patron a request such as this than risk an allergic reaction and allow their patrons to enjoy a special that they drove a half hour for one way. The owners response: well...you can just order off the regular menu. Of course! By the time you add up the cost of two entrees, a bottle of wine, etc, the meal would have cost us easily $25-30 more. This increases their bottom line. We left. We have noticed over the last 6-9 months the significant staff turnover and decreasing lack of customer service. But we have kept coming back due to the quality of the food. Tonight however was the last straw. The lack of overall concern and take or leave attitude is not how a customer deserves to be treated, especially when we drive out of our way to frequent your establishment and have for...
