I was directed here by my travel agent Gina, although I already knew of the place due to previous patrons. I did not know what to expect walking in the door. On the outside it appeared tiny and I wasn't really sure this was the place I had heard talked about and seen in live video. The interior was clean but rustic. Made me think that this is what happens when a nuclear era cafe gets in a fight with a biker bar. The results are definitely worth seeing. The place has a vibe that is unique and all it's own.
I arrived at lunch time hungry and hopeful. First I ordered myself a glass of bourbon, in a chilled glass with water on the side. Then on to the menu. Quickly figuring out that my burger could have Jalepeno Bacon it was a done deal. I didnt want to stop there though I was 1,500 miles from home so I ordered a 'Short Bus Sampler' with Mozzarella Sticks, Onion rings, Fried Pickles and Fried Cheese Curds.
The bar tender (*) engaged me in a conversation since she could tell by both my southern draw and the way I dress apparently that I wasn't from 'around here' time went by really quickly from then till the point when my food showed up.
I had high hopes for the food but got much more than I bargained for. The Jalepeno Bacon turned an otherwise 'Ok' burger into a flavor beast. I had eaten half the burger before I realized I should probably try the other fair before filling up on this golden sample bacon. The onion rings were pretty standard, same for the mozzarella sticks. The pickes were really good but the star of the show was the cheese curds. Where I'm from this is just fried cheese, not here. The cheese curds here are Jalepeno Cheese giving them just enough of a kick and flavor profile change to make them really stand out. They were the one thing I managed to finish all of (besides my drinks of course)
I then sat there listening to some of my classic rock favorites on the jukebox which i didnt even have to get up to do because an old friend had shown me how to do it from my phone ages ago. Five triple bourbons and a bit over 2 hours later I was day drunk and called my 2 friends in tuscon to come get my day drunk self and my car and it was off to mount lemon.
The next time I'm in town I plan on stopping here again, and of course I have to come back because the A-holes back home haven't figured out that Jalepeno Bacon is a thing yet. See you around Ore House and that nice...
