We are locals and have been waiting anxiously for the opening of Spice Bar & Grill and we're happy to say the wait was not in vain! The food is truly high quality and the owners are doing the serving themselves while they get up and running. We spoke at length with Roger (Raja?), he and his family own numerous restaurants in LA as well as a trucking company so he knows the business inside out. He stressed they are interested in maintaining a true fine dining experience at reasonable prices and so far they are right on the mark. Tasted truly homemade! The place has a wonderful aroma and there's Indian music playing softly in the background. Most menu items are in the $15 range, so with appetizers, main meals, tax & tip we were right at $50 for two.
You could eat cheap with plain rice, yogurt and some appetizers so even if you're on a budget it's better than 2 slices of greasy pizza at the gas station for $9!
The owner said they'd be having a separate menu for the truck drivers staying at the One Nine station across the street as they are looking for spicier food with more sauce, more like Indian street food apparently, so will look forward to that too.
No bar yet, waiting for their liquor license (as of Sept 2024). We used to hang out in the bar when this was LuLu Belles so when this happens I imagine we'll find ourselves being regulars again!
They open early (8-9 AM...the menu presently says 7AM but they've already moved that up) and in a few weeks intend to have a separate breakfast menu in place.
We wish the new owners all the best and welcome you...
Read moreI don’t know how this place stays open given its location, but I’m really glad it is open, and I hope it stays that way—if you’re going past, to the Grand Canyon or wherever, stop off here! I really can’t say enough good things about it; I’d give it 6 stars if I could, and I rarely or never say that in a review, especially on a first visit. Reasonable prices for excellent Indian food. They have a full range of the usual appetizers (samosas, various pakora, etc.), curries and sauce dishes (tikka masala, butter chicken, curries, etc.), and biryani, with beverage options like lassi and a good selection of soft drinks. There’s a whole page of veggie options. The butter chicken was very nicely seasoned. There’s paneer pakora was delicious and went well with both sauces; even the little pita chip squares it was served on seemed freshly cooked and were unusually good. They have many types of naan, even more than on the menu; I’d never had chili naan before but it was delicious. The server was great, I asked for recommendations and got good ones. There’s obviously plenty of parking. The space inside is great: simples, clean, rustic-looking wooden tables and chairs, and windows all around that are about 10 feet high so there’s lots of...
Read moreMy hubs and I were able to go this afternoon and it was delicious! And I'm a half way decent cook, so usually I'm not completely thrilled with eating out. I hate spending money on something I think I could make better. This was not the case, I've never made anything like this, and doubt I could recreate. This food was so authentic, fresh, the curry tasted like it was made from scratch and then slow simmered all day. There is definitely no Sysco frozen premade stuff here. The depth of flavor was incredible. We started with the chick pea battered vegetable appetizer , it came with two dipping sauces, it was very good. I had the chef's special- goat curry and choose whatever vegetable dish you want, I picked a creamy lentil dish. I've never had goat before, I was wondering if it would have that same strong flavor as goat cheese, it did not! It was tender and tasted amazing in the thick red rich curry sauce. The lentil dish was just as incredible. It came with a nice portion of rice. Unfortunately I couldn't partake of the naan because of a gluten allergy, but it looked yummy. My husband ordered two main dishes, one lamb korma and one with cottage cheese, and he loved both of them. We will definitely be making a regular...
