The Dog House Saloon at The Tanque Verde Ranch — Restaurant in Four Corners States

This was our seventh time visiting TVR over the last several years, usually a week at a time, and as much as I adore hiking the trails, riding the horses and interacting with the amazing staff of the ranch. I would be remiss if I didn’t say my favorite part may be our daily ritual of arriving at the Dog House in at 4 PM to play pool and games and catch up with the incredible Des or her sidekick Isaac. The vibe and ambience is second to none and they make us feel like welcome family members every time we walk in. It may be the hardest thing I have to leave aside from saying goodbye to the horses on our way out. Even though we book the all-inclusive package and could eat at the dining room (great menu!) , we take a night or two where we just stay at the dog house and order from their menu because the energy is so fantastic. I was vacationing at Tanque Verde with my sister and wasn’t expecting much from this little bar on-site, but the bartender, Isaac, was phenomenal! On my first visit I started with the prickly pear margarita, which was good, but I really enjoyed the subsequent mojitos, margaritas, and mules that were recommended and specially crafted by the bartender. Both he and the bartender-in-training were friendly and good fun. I’d say their service was akin to the cocktails they served up - refreshing with just the right amount of flavor and spice to make for a memorable evening… or two or three. We spent the better part of our last evening at Tanque Verde enjoying the Dog House Saloon’s good company and drinks while snacking on the ever-ready popcorn and playing pool. TVR is our family’s absolute favorite home away from home. We love hiking, food, horses, and serenity. We have been many times over the last six years, but one year we came when the Dog House wasn’t open. I didn’t know how much it meant to us honestly until we couldn’t go. Des feels like part of the family when we are here. We are relatively discerning (aka we appreciate it fantastic craft cocktail) and the food and drinks are honestly some of the best we’ve ever had. Likely it is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, but we would not change it for anything. Definitely book a trip at the ranch, but even if you can’t, a visit to the Dog House is an absolutely unforgettable experience we recommend for a date night or a family venture out. Thank you, Des...
