We have experienced the notch a ton of times and love making a trip out if the way to stop. It's a great environment with good drinks and great food. That's where the 4 star review comes in.
I did want to share a 1 star experience I had this weekend with our server Andrew. He was slow, uneducated, rude and disappeared for about 30 minutes while we had to flag down different servers to get us taken care of. We asked what was on draft, he said I don't know go look. We asked what was in the body Mary, he said I don't know, what do you think is in it? We ordered wings and asked for hand in one sauce and half in a different sauce and got dry wings with to small sides of sauces because "they couldn't mix them". Because of the poor service each i and having to track down different servicer since he wasn't around, each of us tipped around 10-15% each ( there were 5 of us). He actually came outside as we were leaving and asked if we left cash on the table. Confused because all the bills had been taken care of, we asked for more information as to why there would need to be cash left at the table. He said "well you all only gave $2 tips. $2, $3, $5, $2.... That just isn't right. I don't make money if you don't tip me". I'm pretty upset at how he chose to handle the situation. We pay servers what they are worth based on performance and attitude. If your awesome, expect a 50%+ tip. If your not great 10-15% is what can be expected. Either way, it is a TIP, so appreciate what you get and if you don't like it, go into a new profession, or be better at your job.
Either way. The Notch as an establishment is a great place, but I am extremely disappointed in the service we receieved by...
Read moreMy spouse and I stopped in here on our way home from a trip to Provo River Falls. The sun was setting and the temperature was pretty chilly. It was busy and loud, but enjoyable. I noticed that they smoke their own meats, but the chili was calling my name. After a brief discussion with the server I went for the ribs instead of the chili.
For my sides I ordered onion rings and potato chips. My spouse ordered chicken tenders and french fries. The chicken strips were crisp, done, and tasted like they cook knew how to fry with the best of chefs. All of the sides were fantastic. They were crisp, well cooked, and had great flavor. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some more sides.
For the ribs, well, the chef missed class on the day they went over hot smoking. There's a fine line between so tender they fall off the bone (failing a competition) and so tough you can't eat them off the bone. Actually, no, that's not a fine line. They just plain weren't cooked well enough.
I ate one or two ribs from a full rack and took them all home. There was so much meat I couldn't eat off the bone from the two, that I knew I could get more meat off of them. The next day I threw the ribs and BBQ sauce in a crock pot and let them cook. I didn't want to take time fixing somebody else's poorly cooked food, so the crock pot was used.
After six hours in the crock pot I was able to eat the rib meat off the bone. I let them cook another hour, removed the bones from the meat, and was able to eat them the next couple of meals. I did enjoy them, once they were tender enough to cook.
I will be going back to try out the chili and...
Read moreThis is a cool little pub on Utah Highway 150 going into the Uinta Mountains from the west side (called Mirror Lake Hwy), a little pub 6-8 miles east of Kamas, Utah, just off the south side of the road that has some pretty good burgers ... seems mostly locals and bikers "hydrating" for the high mountain rides (basically two separate rides, one to the north comes out in Evenston, Wyoming and the other [a bit hard to find the beginning of the road] goes a bit up into the high Unitas and then curves to the south and comes out on US Hwy 40 at Duchesne, Utah (if you've every watched the History channel's show The Secrets of Skinwalker Ranch, then you would turn east on US 40 and travel about I think it's about 30 minutes to that general area find a camp spot that is not on any of the Ute-Piute Reservation land and certainly not on any rancher's land and settle down for the night to look for the UFOs. We went to the Notch Pub for an "anniversary dinner" and the menu has listed on it a "Smoked Full-rack Rib Dinner" for 32 bucks and when it came out we got dry yesterday's ribs about half of a rack of what looked like baby back sized ribs when we ordered a whole rack! It's served with Cole slaw and one other side. We've had really good burgers there before, but this meal sucked! Go for the cool little watering hole in a somewhat hidden gem part of the world and maybe a burger, but...
