The Trailhead Hideaway Bar and Grill is conveniently located right at the turn-off to Mt Graham from Highway 191. A group of us stopped by after a long day of mountain biking on the freshly worked on trails on Mt Graham. The atmosphere is what you would expect for a bar and grill on the side of the highway. It looked well taken care of, and nothing stood out as being out of place or worn-out. There was a pool table, which we were told was free to use on Sunday. Our group took advantage of the pool table while we waited for our food. The menu was good and had the choices you would like. There were probably 10 plus draft beers to choose from, including a few good craft beers, which was a good surprise. I ordered a double cheese burger, and it came with some fresh cut frys. (Sorry, I forgot to get a picture of the burger) My wife ordered a grill cheese and a basket of fried mushrooms, which she said were very good. My hayz IPA beer came with an orange slice, which was different but I went with it and it was fine. The service was very good. She keep our waters and beers full and checked on us often. A small misunderstanding on our order between the waitress and the cook was quickly fixed within minutes. I could not ask for any more from our visit and look forward to visiting again on our next trip...
Read moreToday being Veterans Day, my Father (94year old Korean War Veteran) and I, Disabled Veteran, drove 35 miles from Fort Thomas, to this tiny little shack of a place, only to pay $4.00 for a glass of sprite that had an awful taste, as if the plastic glass it was served in had just been washed in dirty water from an RV gray tank. My wife and I each took a taste and immediately got up and took my Father out of there. I was also astounded to see the prices on the menu that would make you think that you must be dining in a place that spends a lot on not only a classy and cozy atmosphere, but on quality products and paying their employees good money to keep things clean. Not only was this place disappointing and unclean, but overpriced beyond reason. Where else are you going to be charged $4. For a 20 ounce glass of soda with a sewer taste? This is not any place I would return to or recommend to anyone. Very strange indeed.... We ended up just going back home hungry and cooking our own food, knowing our hygiene is good and our food is safe to eat. I bought two 2 lb. Tri tip roasts for less than the price of a single burger and fries at Trail...
Read moreThis was a hard one. On the one hand, I’m encouraged that they make their own French fries and ranch dressing, and probably a number of other things on their menu, but the execution is what’s lacking. House made fries are great, except for then they aren’t, and these…aren’t.
But hey, I also acknowledge that fries are a subjective experience. Some folks like them crispy and nicely seasoned. Others prefer them soft, soggy, and bland. If you’re among the former, ditch this place.
If you’re a fan of a nice, juicy burger, you can also continue driving right on by, because the thin pre-packaged patties will surely disappoint you. My burger was more sauce and veggies than meat. But hold on, I absolutely LOVE my veggies and sauces! It’s just, the ratio of meat to other goodies was just, lacking, shall we say. Couldn’t even taste the patty, nor could I distinguish it from the sauciness of it all.
Overall, Trailhead Hideaway does okay. For reference, I was here just after lunch service on a Monday afternoon. Service wasn’t slow, but it wasn’t quick, either. I bet it’s a good time on a packed weekend night, if you’re just here for...
