Although I have driven by the Fox Point location multiple times, I had no idea that there was a great hidden gem, authentic Italian restaurant, tucked away in this small strip mall.
The first time I went was a few months ago on a dinner date and couldn't wait to go back again. I didn't take photos the first time for various reasons but did take a few during our more recent visit.
The first time was during a Saturday night in November. With the social distancing, they had tables nicely spaced apart. The ambiance was a nice local, family owned, Italian restaurant. These types of restaurants are hard to find.
I had the Chicken Marsala and an old fashioned. In the traditional Italian style, they brought out the crusty Italian bread and olive oil It was delicious. The minestrone soup is served in a traditional cup and tasted fresh. The Chicken Marsala was tasty, not overly salted as in many places and the side of garlic pasta was delicious as well.
I recently returned with a more fun and relaxed group of friends and I even had a better time. This time I ordered the Veal Piccata and a bottle of Prosecco. Again the crusty, delicious bread and olive oil appease your appetite as you sit in this cozy Italian restaurant with a nice traditional décor that includes tablecloth. Many restaurants no longer use tablecloth.
This time we dined during a non-busy weeknight. The Veal Piccata and the garlic pasta arrived and were delicious. We also got to enjoy a serving of surprise amaretto.
The service was great during the busy Saturday night as well as during the more relaxed weeknight. Looking forward...
Read moreService dining in on a Friday evening is consistently abysmal. We have celebrated many birthdays dinners here over the years; however, after our third attempt on a Friday evening, we've determined it is best to avoid this day, though service was exceptionally poor on our latest experience ( Fri 11/7/25). We had a reservation for seven, noting the special occasions. Food was excellent (as usual), service was polite but very slow (as expected on a Friday night, i.e. took over an hour for food). What was unexcusable? Shortly after finishing our meals, an owner comes up to our table rudely insinuating that it was our time to leave, assuming we were just lingering there at the table. Instead, we were still waiting for drink refills, hadn't yet been offered a dessert menu for the birthdays we were celebrating, nor had we even been brought the bill. Instead of speaking with our lovely, over-worked server first before approaching our table, he just assumed we were rudely taking up space. (Of note, the surrounding patrons had been there before we even sat down so, aside from our group size, it's unclear why we were singled out.) It was an extremely disappointing end to what would have been a great celebratory meal. Our server appeared rightfully mortified and was very apologetic for his behavior. He, however, offered no apology for his rudeness and offered nothing for essentially kicking us out before we had finished. While the food is consistently great and the waitstaff lovely, I would strongly recommend celebrating weekend special...
Read moreBeing Sicilian, I love food, and eat constantly, although I will admit to writing far too few reviews. It's hard to keep up! I recently set out to find pizza near Fox Point. A neighbor recommended Calderone Club, so without much for alternatives, I gave them a ring. The staff on the phone was friendly and warm, as well as informative. I will say that when I asked about a proper size pizza to order for one adult and one child, she suggested the medium, which even I, with the best of appetites, could eat for several days! (Not at all a complaint, just for informational purposes.)
Now, having worked for several years as a chef (albeit pastry), I have spent my time around some incredible food. I'll confess to a penchant for my sfinciuni, but for a thin crust pizza, I was impressed by Calderone Club! In my opinion, olives are the only thing on any pizza that should EVER come from a can, and they got that right. I did load up on some crushed red pepper because I like a little more heat than most, especially from my sausage, but everything else exceeded expectations.
I'd like to thank the staff for not making me feel too ridiculous for coming to pick up in my pajama pants, only because I had failed to realize it was a restaurant with a full dining room that I got to walk through en route...my only complaint is that the dining room was far too empty for Sunday night at 6:30pm. I'm not sure where people in Fox Point are eating dinner, but I know where they should be, and where I will be returning....
