We wanted to get away for a night; looking on the map for just someplace different to try, we found this little....and I do mean little, diner. We booked a room in town for Saturday night and excitedly drove 207 miles from Columbus, Ohio, just to go to this one little diner - no other agenda for our short trip. Their hours were listed as Saturday and Sunday 8:30 am - 4 pm. We got there just after 3 pm to be saddened by the fact that their new hours posted showed them closing at 3 pm.... we really wanted to try their burgers. We went there for breakfast on Sunday morning, a little after the early morning breakfast rush. The little diner was full but we got right in with no waiting, we sat right down at the counter, taking in everything about the diner, from its customer base, its fun decor, and to its people working hard to keep their customers fed and happy. Their very obviously regular customers were friendly, fun, and very engaged with everything and everyone the entire time that we were there. We tried the meat omelet and the breakfast Kentucky hot brown; neither one disappointed us. The ladies working that morning were simply delightful! The manager was amazing with her crew and kept things moving with a light-hearted attitude. There was only one line cook, working hard...."Kudos to you"!! Not one order was cooked wrong, and nothing returned for any reason during our visit. As we left to head home, we were planning out our next trip down there to try their burgers. This is a must for anyone looking for a great diner experience. Good people, good food, and a great experience all the way around. It's...
Read moreWe wanted to try a restaurant outside of Lexington, so I did some research and found this place. It is small so it has limited seating. We sat at the bar which was neat because we could watch them make the food. I didn’t realize they were known for their burger until we saw signs in the restaurant. If a restaurant is popular for a certain item I usually try to go with that item. They were extremely busy inside and it looked like they also did quite a bit of take out. It took a while to get the food but honestly every staff member were working as quickly as possible to keep up. At one point there were over 10 burgers on the grill. One waitress was a bit friendly than another but over good customer service. The couple next to us had the open-faced roast beef. If I had seen that before we ordered I probably would have gone with that because it looked GREAT. They said that every time they go to this restaurant that dish is what they get. The burger had a good cook on the meat, but it did not wow me. It seemed to be lacking some flavor from the burger itself. I was not a huge fan of the chili on the chili cheese fries but that is personal preference. My biggest issue is that I didn’t get the food item I wanted. Originally, I ordered the Bacon & Beer Cheeseburger but they were out of Beer Cheese. So, I chose the Cowboy burger…but they were out of Jalapenos. I ended up getting the...
Read moreJust stopped in today after seeing quite a few people talking about how it's the best burger in Frankfort. It was really busy when I stopped in and the 4 women working were handling the rush really well. Even though they were slammed, their customer service was still on point.
Food wise, I will say that the burger I got was really good. It was a tad dry but the beef was really flavorful. It also could have used a little more seasoning, but still good. I like that the burger patties are pressed in house daily and not frozen. The fries were good, but could have used a little more time in the fryer and some salt.
Just a couple observations. You don't need to press the burgers when they're cooking. It pushes the natural juices of the beef out causing the dryness. The two women that were cooking were wearing gloves which is good, but didn't change gloves after handling the raw patties and turning to help customers, such as taking orders or getting drinks. If you need to add fryer oil, do it while there are no fries cooking. Adding oil lowers the temp of the fryer which can make the fries mushy or under cooked. Add the oil and give it a couple minutes to get the temp up.
All in all, my first impression was really good. I will definitely be back. Good...
