I have never written a review before until now but here goes.
My husband and I went two times to the Village Inn in Linwood Michigan, in a two-week period of time. Our first visit was great and our food was good. Our bill was higher than what the menu prices stated. We paid and dismissed the charges as a price change.
The, second visit was ok and my order was good. My husband ordered fish dinner and the fish were very small and not very many for the price. The food tasted good and the server did a good job over all. (They looked very short handed in servers.)
However, again when we received our bill it was higher than what the menu prices stated. When the server returned to our table to receive our payment. I asked her why it was higher than the menu showed. Come, to find out, you are charged extra for all condiments. My husband’s dinner came with a salad and when the order was taken she asked what kind of dressing he wanted and he said Ranch. When she brought out the salad she gave him a plastic cup of Ranch dressing. He ordered fish and she brought him a plastic cup of tarter sauce. I ordered a wet burrito and she asked if I wanted sour cream and salsa and I also, said yes.
I have never been to a restaurant and ordered a salad and had to pay extra for dressing. Or ordered fish and had to pay extra for the tarter sause. I have never ordered a wet burrito and had to pay extra for sour cream and salsa. Nowhere on the menu did it say that these things were extra or give you a price for condiments. The server never told us that stuff was extra either.
It is not a big deal over all, but it was not right to not state that there was an extra charge for all condiments. It got us thinking about what other things on the menu was extra. Do they charge extra for pickles and onions on your hamburger?
Also, on a different subject while I sat at my table. I could see a server take dirty dishes to the end of the bar that people sat by. They were piling up from the tables she cleared. They sat there until a different server came and cleared the dishes one at a time. Dumping the trash into the trash can. That was already full to the top with trash near the end of the bar. Then pilling the dishes on a cart that sat inside the same end of the bar. It didn’t look very nice and I wondered if it would pass the food inspection. I could also see behind the bar and on the floor was seven or eight bottles of cleaning products.
Sitting out in the open on the floor under the bar. Is that proper to have them out and not behind cupboard doors? It just didn’t look very clean behind the bar. With a whole tray of used classes waiting to be taken to the kitchen to be cleaned. I think they could use more help to clear the dishes away and take care of the bar area better. It seemed like I was sitting in the dish cleaning area.
My husband and I will not be going back to the Village Inn, in...
Read moreWe came in tonight 9-25-23 for a bday dinner. First time here. Good food, however as always anywhere that has a chef salad you are paying for iceberg(water) lettuce. Why not spend the extra for the good spring mix and add some hard boiled eggs. Now we have traveled the USA and I will say your chef salad is good but can be SO much better. Now as far as your staff, watch your cameras from this night, we were there from about 6:30 to 7:45 pm and why the heck do you have so many staffed on a Monday night, yes it maybe football night, however 7 out front is a Waste of money...one of your Staff talked to her boyfriend at the end of the bar and the others were too worried about getting themselves something to drink, no alcohol, but a refreshment, while the one bartender whom asked one of the girls to get her some cranberry juice, while trying to finish making a drink for one of your patrons, completely ignored the request and she was standing right by the fridge with the juice in it, we guessed the conversation she was having with the other, hostess, we believe, was way more important. In a nutshell the one that was working the crowd out playing corn hole and Shawn the bartender and the cook were your only worthy employees tonight. You need to pay close attention to your employees that...
Read moreI've eaten at Village Inn a number of times, and had always considered them a diamond in the rough. I don't know if they're under new management or what, but the last time I had them the food was absolutely garbage. Not like "oh, the cook is having a bad day" bad. Like the quality from start to finish was just gross, and overcooked on top of it. The pizzas seem smaller, the prices seem higher, and the ingredients seemed inferior to past offerings. The cheese looked, and tasted, plastic. They also got rid of their sampler platter, which was a big draw for my friends and I, who get together bi weekly and often default to VI for food.
Honestly, it was bad enough that I won't risk the money on a second chance for fear of just getting more subpar food. If you really want pizza and you're stuck in Linwood, I mean, you do you. But if you have a vehicle, go...
