I get this is the hip joint on the corner, and for the most part they probably perform just fine, however, we had a pretty rough experience with the service on our first time there. There is really nothing wrong with the atmosphere or the food quality in general though so that’s a plus.
My family is all in town for an event and we decided to go here for breakfast. Around 9 people total. My wife and I were the first in the group to order. We came in and placed an order for our two plates and coffees and some snacks and apple juice for my daughter. We went and sat down to wait. The rest of our group ordered and their food came within 15 mins. My wife approached the counter when all the other orders had arrived and ours had not. Someone checked the kitchen and said not much longer to her. Just after that they brought her plate out and set in on the back counter where it remained until my breakfast burrito came out another 20 minutes later. During that time, my wife remained at the end of the counter remind patiently. Roughly 35-40 mins had passed in total before our two plates and coffee was brought up. In the meantime the rest of our group had received their orders and were wrapping up with them and multiple other customers had received their orders in a perfectly timely manner. Due to the poor service time my wife’s food came to her luke warm, but there was no way we were going to request it be reheated or remade because who knows how much longer that would’ve been. On top of that, we noticed that the apple juice we got for my daughter was technically passed its best by date by 10 days. Not a big deal, my daughter will be just fine, but it was just one more thing that we observed.
I don’t want to make it sound like they can’t do things right, plainly speaking it’s not the end of the world, but service is what sticks with people and this definitely will for us. Slow service, no reconciliation, warm/expired food. I think what is also salt in the wound is we electronically tipped when we initially ordered before knowing what was in store for us. Again, not a big deal, but I would’ve probably reconsidered the amount after the visit was over. 3/5. Could’ve...
Read moreI’ll start with the good, the drinks we ordered were pretty good. We went in and ordered drinks to go. There were a few people sitting at tables, mostly other people waiting for orders. One of our orders was ready in about 10 minutes, but then we waited and waited and waited. When we got there, there were 3 people behind the counter after the first order was done 2 of them disappeared. The second order was 2 hot drinks and 2 cold drinks. She started on our order, and then spent the next 20 minutes calling out names for food orders and then taking more food orders and calling those out before finally finishing our drinks. We waited 30 minutes to get our drinks, there weren’t many people there and by the time we got our drinks the hot ones were no longer hot. People got there, ordered food, got their food, and were done eating before we got our drinks to go. It was a very...
Read moreA beautiful Friday morning in Fredericksburg brought us to Salt Creek Cafe. The merchandise was interesting and captivating, although it seemed to overrun the space a bit. The atmosphere is gentle and relaxing. The employees seem disinterested and passive.
The Pina Colada Lotus is light and refreshing, and the umbrella is a cute, fun touch. The dirty chai latte is one of the best in the area!
The turkey pesto panini has great potential, but the execution just wasn't quite there. The pesto was too oily, it soaked into the bread and made for a soggy bite. There was also too much turkey, it overwhelms the rest of the sandwich. I also had the Baked Potato soup, which was a good texture but too salty in my opinion.
Overall, a decent experience. I look forward to trying more that Salt Creek Cafe...
