Upon entering, a woman who looked like she'd spent most of her life in a bar intercepted me. "There's a $5 cover," she croaked. I wasn't prepared for this, as I had checked their website beforehand and although it mentioned a band playing that night, it said nothing about a cover fee, and I would think that someone who had come to eat dinner wouldn't have to pay twice anyway. However, I had told friends I would meet them there, so I grudgingly gave her the 5 bucks. The band was talented enough, but unfortunately the sound system provided by the bar was all about volume at the expense of harmonic distortion. Read moreThe NEW, IMPROVED Buckskin Tavern is so awesome!!! The historic bar was closed for over 3 years due to covid and then the death of the owner. The new owners gave it a facelift, cleaned it up, added 12 taps that they are serving craft brewed beers from. You can also get cocktails (took awhile after reopening) seltzers, ciders, mock-tails, bottled domestic and import beers. The Buckskin Kitchen has regular pub food like wings and pretzel bites. Their pulled pork sandwich and potato mac salad for $12 is a good value. They have various food trucks in on weekends when they also tend to have live entertainment. The owners, the staff, the atmosphere, the FOOD and and the beverages are Fabulous and worth our 40 min drive every time.
