Baxter’s is a restaurant in small town Fremont, Iowa. My husband and I popped in for dinner to support the business that is in my hometown. The server is an elderly woman who appears to be tasked with answering the phone, taking orders, delivering orders and cashing people out. There was another younger girl who gave us menus and got our drinks, but she definitely seemed to be under utilized. It took a hot minute before we placed our order. Both ladies were very friendly. It was Taco Wednesday, so I ordered then taco basket which consisted of 3 tacos (I got soft shell) for $6. For that price, I assumed they would be small. They were not. I also got a side of refried beans for $1.50 which came with melted cheese. I was only able to eat 1 1/2 tacos and not all beans. My husband ordered fried shrimp plus a side of macaroni and cheese plus mozzarella sticks. He got cherry cheesecake to take home. Everything came out hot and fresh. My tacos and beans were very good, and my husband said his meal was good as well. Will definitely return, but if I was in a hurry I would avoid peak lunch or dinner times. Great prices...

My Philly sandwich and coleslaw (with a hint of horseradish?) was the best I've ever eaten. My wife had the hand-breaded chicken strips, mac and cheese and baked beans (sweetened with molasses, maybe). All were delicious. The prices were even more surprising.
