Council House Restaurant — Restaurant in French Camp

I do like this place….but am giving 3 stars for a few reasons. First of all….they use to have an amazing broccoli salad….but they have changed it…and it is now just not good…..not even close! On this visit I had a catfish po boy …..wont get that again!! It is not on the correct type of bread….but not sure what I expected when ordering this in a small restaurant in central MS…..if they get the right type of bread this could be a good sandwich . The potato soup is great !! I will order just a bowl of soup on my next visit and skip the rest. I saw a chicken fried steak on my friends plate …and was shocked at how little it was lolol….wow…in TX that would be sent back to the kitchen and asked for the rest of it. The friend said it tasted good….I cannot say as I did not order that…..but I am pretty picky on chicken fried steak! Over all….we love going here for a lunch….I do think all restaurants who want to be a dine in type place should always serve some type of bread or rolls to each table….that should be a given….even Mexican places give you chips!! We will go back….love the place and people….it is home….but this review is about the food….so 3...

We have been coming here many years as it’s the perfect stop along the trace to eat or pick up something for a picnic and we have enjoyed the experience and food immensely until today. One of the perks of eating here is the outdoor seating with umbrellas. Today all seats were reserved for a party of 80 and the inside was packed so ok we said just get it to go. They were out of drinks except for water and we had to make another trip inside for that and the meats were limited. We waited nearly 45 minutes for our order and the toasted bread was cold. They did say they take reservations but this is the first we had heard of that and many people traveling the trace don’t know this as it usually is a spontaneous trip. I liked this place much better before they added on the restaurant. We didn’t even get napkins to go with our order either so now I will end on a good note; the sandwiches are still good and the waitstaff are very friendly. I’m sure at some point we will be back but I hope the situation...

I took my mother there in early June. The wait staff are kind and responsive. I ordered a roast beef half sandwich and small salad but it was disappointing. The broccoli salad was excellent but the serving was only about a half cup, not much for the money. My sandwich was made of paper thin cold cuts, on toast, not real sliced beef. That was disappointing. But the worst thing was the flies in the dining room. They were outrageous. I had to fight flies off mine and my mothers food the whole time. Dozens of flies buzzed our table landing on our drink glass, and food. It was disgusting. I couldn't enjoy the meal because of the flies. There are no air curtains on the doors and apparently there are conditions around the building that attract flies. I won't return without a can of Black Flag spray...
