Marlie's Restaurant — Restaurant in French Settlement

My family and I visited a while ago and we were seated rather quickly. The restaurant was rather busy, and was a bit loud, nothing too crazy though. We ordered our drinks and appetizers and they came out at a good pace. The stuffed mushrooms were good but the seafood gumbo was not. When the waitress picked up our appetizers after a while and we mentioned that we did not enjoy the gumbo after she noticed that it was barely touched.

After that, our time at the restaurant grew more suspicious as time passed. There were people who we knew came in after us that got all of their food and left before we got our main dishes. It grew to be very apparent that the staff decided to move our ticket to the very end of the line in the kitchen. The food was hot when it was brought out to us so they absolutely waited to cook ours because we simply did not enjoy a bowl of seafood gumbo. We were rather angry by the time it finally was served and we simply asked for to-go boxes and cups since we going to take our food back home. We arrived around 430 before the busy time. My husband ordered a Coke which arrived without any syrup in it. The waitress brought him a new one which was good. We ordered the crab cakes with au gratin and when we received it, it was barely warm/not hot at all. We had the waitress bring it back and after it was warmed it was delicious. We also ordered onion rings as an appetizer and they were hot and delicious. When we receive the salad for our meals the greens were limp and beginning to turn brown and the salad dressing were not very tasty. When we received our plates, there was no bread which was supposed to come with our meals, the french fries were barely warm, but the fish and shrimp was really good.. My husband ordered a large shrimp and only has five shrimp on his plate when he question the waitress, she went and checked and brought more shrimp, stating that she had brought his plates out before it was ready. We ask for bread as none came on our plates, and she brought us hush puppies. These hush puppies were very cold no warmth at all. We asked her for fresh/hot hush puppies, and she brought us more, but they were only warm and...

We went on a boat ride yesterday afternoon and decided to stop and try out this new place on the drive back and it was SO GOOD! I didn't snap pictures of our food because we were just too anxious to dive into it.

We ordered the crab cake appetizer that was topped with crabmeat au gratin. DELICIOUS! My boyfriend ordered a fried shrimp and fish combo plate that he said was so good and he couldn't even finish it all. I ordered the stuffed shrimp plate, and it was the biggest stuffed shrimp I've ever seen in my life so needless to say I had leftovers since I mistakenly ordered the one with 4 on it. The baked potato that it came with was so tender as well that it was the first time I ever found myself complimenting a baked potato.

We enjoyed the food and the laid back atmosphere. The place was decorated nicely, but I didn't feel undressed in casual athletic wear. We will definitely be back to support a local small business with great food and...
