I love The Merc, and the food is always really good. Also, the staff members are fantastic. You can't beat their tomato soup and grownup grilled cheese. That being said, let's talk about their seafood buffet for a bit. First, the crab cakes, stuffed crabs, and frog legs are delicious. Next, I found the sautéed mushrooms to be too salty. The same is true of one of the grilled shrimp dishes I tried, but two misses out of everything on the bar isn't that bad. Additionally, the desserts were excellent (banana pudding and caramel cobbler. Now, let's get to the real problem with the seafood buffet, the cocktail sauce. I've eaten cocktail sauce all over the world, and I've made my own for years. That being said, what is being used as horseradish in the cocktail sauce at The Merc does not deserve to be classified as horseradish, and it should certainly never be used to make cocktail sauce, ever. In fact, while I'm not 100% certain it to be the cause, I have been terribly sick at my stomach since eating it last night. In fact, I'm typing this from my bed after two rounds of Phenergan and one round of Zofran, and the cocktail sauce and shrimp are the only two items my dad didn't eat while we were dining at The Merc last night. His only complaint was that he didn't think the fried oysters "had a good taste." Personally, I didn't notice this with the ones I ate. This is my honest review of The Merc. If you are reading this and decide to try the seafood buffet, please share your experience in regard to the items in this review. I would only caution you to take your own horseradish and mix your own cocktail sauce at the table. While I wish I would've taken a picture of the cocktail sauce, I did not take one, but I can say it had the consistency of mayonnaise, and that's not right for a quality horseradish. I did snap a picture of my desserts, and I will share those with this review.

During our trip down I22, we stopped in this town for a different restaurant, which was closed. So we opted for this place instead. Glad we did! It's in a new location just down from town. Servers were friendly. Food was good. Philly was the best thing the 4 of us had. Wasn't a fan of the fries but im a skinny fry kind of person.

Okay, so the first time I’ve ever eaten here was the 3rd of this month. And to explain the situation, we ordered online when the store was closed, so we had to wait until the next day to get our food. We called and explained what happened, and they agreed to make it again for us (which was nice) but then when we got there, it was made wrong. The lady, who I believe was the manager, seemed a little snappy about having to remake it. But then after we got home with it, it was probably the best burger I’ve ever had. And the fries were like steak fires, thick and perfectly seasoned. The burger was made great and had American cheese on it (my favorite).

So now on today, the 21st, we ordered the same thing which was two merc cheeseburgers and fries. Well this time, the burgers had cheddar cheese on them instead (which I’m not a fan of) and the buns were burnt. I didn’t receive any onions this time either which I requested on the mobile order. The fries were what looked like frozen, thin spicy fires. They were definitely NOT the same fries from the first time, which resembled thick, cut steak fries. I also ordered a side of Mac cheese for $4 and it looked and tasted like they threw a slice of American cheese on top and melted it. I was shocked opening the bowl up and seeing that. Especially since I wanted that on my burger, not my Mac and cheese. We spent a total of $35 again and were not happy with our experience this time around at all. I would really like a refund or something because $35 in this economy for two burgers, a fry, and Mac and cheese is already an insane price, but to not end up satisfied is gut wrenching. I hope the store will do the right thing...

It was our first time to eat at The Merc tonight, and I just have to say, the entire experience was wonderful. Literally the BEST customer service I’ve ever. I’ve actually never had better customer service in my life. Our server, Trinity, was phenomenal. Not pushy, but very much knew how to get you to try a dessert as well. She was super sweet! Had people from the kitchen and manager come out and check on us. Welcomed our toddler with open arms. And that’s just the customer service! The food was great! Most things are homemade. Can’t get much better than that. The sauces are also homemade. The ranch was 10/10. Highly suggest the banana pudding. I could go on and on, but what I’m trying to say is, GO TRY THEM!! We will...
