We came in on a Tuesday just before lunch. The place wasnât too busy, and the environment was really nice and welcoming. The server was polite, friendly, and very helpful.
Weâre vegetarians and also heavy coffee drinkers (West Coast habits die hard!). When we asked if they had coffee, there was zero hesitationâour server immediately said, âAbsolutely, weâll start a pot brewing.â That alone impressed us. We usually ask for a little milk and some sweetener, and of course, they brought that too. But the coolest detail was this: when she poured the coffee, she thoughtfully left space at the top of the cup so we could add milk ourselves. Usually, we have to ask for an extra plate and carefully scoop froth off the top of the cup just to make room.
Moving onâthe menu itself wasnât exactly rich with vegetarian choices, as expected. The grilled cheese with fried onions sounded tempting, but I decided to push my luck. Encouraged by how friendly and willing to help our waitress had been, I asked if she might be adventurous enough to make us some kind of vegetarian dish. She went to check with Nestley, the owner, who immediately rattled off several options she could put together.
Honestly, I was so happy with her attitudeâtreating us as vegetarians like we werenât outsidersâthat I barely listened to the details and just said yes. She even assured us that if we didnât like it, sheâd try again. Of course, we were never going to do that. We knew weâd like whatever she came up with.
What arrived was basically a Dagwood-style burger (you have to be old enough to catch that reference đ) built around a bean patty. It was delicious. The pickles didnât overwhelm the flavorâthey just enhanced it.
After our meal, we had a chance to visit with Nestley for a bit. She mentioned that cooking healthy food isnât a foreign concept to herâsheâs done it before and even dreams of eventually creating a nice steakhouse there.
You can certainly come here just for the food, but that would be underutilizing this space. I feltâand so did Nestleyâthat this could become a true meeting place. A real neighborhood spot with good coffee, good food, and good company.
All in all, it was a great experience, and weâll definitely be back. If youâre vegetarian, you wonât be disappointed (and itâs not hard to make it vegan). You meat eatersâyouâre on...
Read moreService was so good as the servers and staff would always check on you. Atmosphere was nice and be in the country was great to see hometown team support. The food was hot and looked amazing. My issue was there was way to much spices on the burger and fries for me. I took a bite and when I swallowed the bite I couldn't stop coughing. I had to take a drink of my drink to help stop coughing. I was coughing so hard tears came to my eyes. I took another bite and it was worse with the flavor. Now I love flavor in my food like the next person, and at the end of the lunch my husband and I explained to the lady when she asked how was our food, that it was like someone didn't clean the grill off for the next meats because our's had way to much seasoning on them so much you could hear me coughing loudly. It surprised us to see her role her eyes when we told her that, and her comment to us, which was we have plenty of people that love our place just told us that our comments to help them with food doesn't matter. Again the burger was juicy but way over seasoned. The sweet tea has way to much sugar in it, but if you do half and half no sugar it is great! They have more sugar in it than McD's sweet tea. But what both of us agree on is the Mac and cheese was amazing with what she puts in it. Not to much flavor, but a flavor that is out of this world on that item. The restroom for the ladies side makes you feel like you are in an airplane or portable toliet, and the sink is outside to wash your hands between the mens and womens restroom, but that could be a small building issue for room. If more than one person has to go, that would be an issue, because there is only one stall. Overall, the place is welcoming, service is great, but the food wasn't the best to us because of over seasoning, and don't answer the question on how it was if you dislike eye rolls and comments back on how everyone loves us. Was just trying to help keep them in business for many years. The price didn't met the value of the food. Yes, our waitress got a very nice tip because the service was amazing, checking up on us, and refilling our drinks. Just because the food wasn't is not a reason not to tip for the service! I worked my butt off in businesses like that and tips is how the servers make their money so be kind for the...
