Wow, such a different dining experience. This truly is a fun place to go out to eat with friends.
This restaurant has cornered the market on a unique dining experience of home cooked food.
Think about it, who goes out for home cooking when you can just go home to cook? The answer, people who come here.
Such a warm and friendly atmosphere, with daily special menus written on dry erase boards, sodas served in mason jars, and staff that will make you feel at home.
Two of the items that we ordered, they were out of. And to me, I'm all good with that. Being in the restraunt business for over 25 years, I understand quality control and fresh food ordering. The place was packed, and that too was cool, the more the merrier right?
Freshly relocated from the Left Coast, I found myself looking at a menu full of items I had never seen on a menu. Fried chicken liver, gizzards, green tomatoes, squash, you name it, they had it, and it was fried. It was almost like being at the food court at the county fair.
To me, I'm not much into fried food, so I really didn't click with the food. Everything I ordered was new to me. Fried chicken gizzards (delicious but chewier than a Goodyear), fried green tomatoes, fried squash, and fried jalapeno hush puppies. All served with an icy cold Dr. Pepper in a mason jar. Everything tasted good, but once again, I'm not into fried food.
Why 4 stars, although I'm not a fan of the style of food, it was still prepared tasty and everything else was great.
Would I come back here again? Not by myself, but definitely with a group of friends, as this place is as I said before, a fun place to go to. Who knows, maybe my taste buds...
Read moreFirst time. Won't be the last. We were told about this place by some friends so we gave it a try.
I had the meatloaf, greens, mashed potatoes and gravy, and Mexican cornbread. The wife had the catfish, fries, coleslaw, and deviled eggs.
I'm a purest when it comes to meatloaf, so I liked it, but would prefer a tomato based sauce. Tasty but a little sweet. The greens, top notch. Loved them. The brown gravy was more like a sawmill gravy so it wasn't as flavorful as I would prefer. Not bad, just not WoW worthy. The cornbread was really good, just not like my dad's. R.I.P. pops.
The fish, was really good. Full of flavor and not slimy... Always a plus. Coleslaw and eggs were good. The hush puppies... too mushy. The fries could use a little more crunch. More like fried potatoes than fries.
The atmosphere was great, oldschool fun, with a country decor. Lexi our waitress was really polite and helpful.
Pros: Fun decor, friendly service, good food, reasonably priced, clean restrooms (lol)
Cons: Mushy hush puppies, mushy fries, non traditional meatloaf sauce.
Would have been 4...
Read moreI last dined here three years ago and had a wonderful experience. Yesterday, I decided to bring my wife since we were in the area. The first warning sign was the overwhelming smell of grease as we walked in. It was 3:45 PM, and the restaurant was only about half full. We were seated immediately, and our server took our order within 10 minutes, which seemed promising. However, things quickly went downhill. We waited 30 minutes for our food, and since we had somewhere to be, we started to get anxious. When we asked about our order, we were repeatedly told it would be out any minute.
I ordered livers, fries, and white beans. The livers were so overcooked they were dry and gritty. The fries were also overcooked, crispy on the outside but hollow inside because they had been cooked too long. My granddaughterâs fries and chicken tender were the same. I canât believe how much the quality has declined in three years. My wife said, âPlease donât take me back here again.â She complained all night about the grease smell...
