Creekside Kitchen located just north of South Haven in Glenn. Sean McDaniel and Megan McLeod's restaurant.
Upon arriving for my first time to this highly anticipated restaurant. I really didn't know what to expect other than following their FB page and seeing photos of their food. Every last photo made me drool and want to eat here more. Finally, after months of my personal anticipation to eat here, my buddy Zach got me out of my Holland eatery shell to dine at this wonderful establishment.
Megan was our host and server, I hadn't seen her in quite some time. It was great to talk and catch up with her in a non rushed amount of time while she still took our drink and appetizer orders. Then again, when she had more time after making her rounds at the other tables around the dining area, she sat with us again and continued the up-beat conversations we were having before. -She is SO COOL!
While the chef prepared our wings and Megan continued her rounds to the other customers. We stepped out to enjoy some fresh air and navigate the area. It's obvious to me now, that Glenn has NOTHING like this and NEEDS this in the area. It's 10 minutes north of South Haven, ten minutes south of Saugatuck/Douglas and 25 min south of downtown Holland. It was a bold move to invest in this quiet area, but they're making it happen with the love that goes into their quality product.
How was the food? These wings SMACKED! Their homemade ranch was delicious and thick with a distinct and quality homemade ranch flavor. Their ingredients were top notch. From the home made sauces, to the meat and produce they purchased. I thought our wings were smoked because they were so well prepared. Smokey flavor, tasty crusted glaze and juicy on the inside... But they weren't smoked. I won't spill their recipe, but from what they shared with me, it's a labor of love and the food spoke mountains on that statement. These wings were a part of a 4 part cooking system.
Literally each wing I bit into, had a splash of moisture fly out. I've worked in kitchens and have been a huge fan of cooking for many years and could still not figure out how they cooked these chicken wings. After the chef explained the process to us, it became even more clear that this spot wasn't in it for the money. This spot is in it to help people understand the power of love in food. Only stuff someone who is an advocate, cook or experienced service industry worker would...
Read moreStopped here on a road trip with my 5 year old because the restaurant has good reviews.Well, don't try to use the bathroom while you are halfway through your meal or they will relentlessly try to clear your table.
When we walked in, I could tell it was busy and a bit chaotic, but I am a patient person and did not mind. We were able to get seated right away. The waitress warned us that the food may take 30-40 minutes to come out because they were backed up. I said that would be fine. The waitress was attentive and the food actually came out much quicker than that. The food was good, no complaints.
The issue came in when my 5 year old announced he needed to use the bathroom right then in the middle of our meal. I walked him to the bathroom, which was within sight of our table, and let him go in. The second I turned around, from being gone 20 seconds from the table, a woman was already trying to clear our plates. I didnt even have the check yet, nor were we done eating. I rushed over, saying "wait we are still eating! Just using the bathroom." She apologized and walked away. My 5 year old popped out of the bathroom saying he needed a little help. I went into the bathroom for no longer than 2 minutes, came out, and another woman was cleaning our table. She had already put all the garbage onto my plate of untouched tater tots which I still had wanted to eat and had paid extra for. I rushed over again, "hey we were still eating!" She apologized profusely but at that point we no longer could eat our meals since garbage was on both of our plates.
Will never go here again or recommend this place. Im pretty sure I could have walked out without even paying because they thought we had left already apparently?? Im not sure what was going on, but it was extremely frustrating to pay $34 for half a meal and have multiple workers try to throw the rest out because my 5 year old...
Read moreIt was my first time visiting Creekside Kitchen. The wings were the best I ever had. I can't eat spicy food, so I ordered them "naked". It was very juicy and flavorful. The blue cheese dip was phenomenal. I tasted other people's dishes too. The savory shortstack would be perfect for breakfast. Savory, but the sweet note is still there. The bacon was flavorful. The beef in the bibimbup was very tender and had a good teriyaki flavor. The chicken tenders were crispy outside and tender inside. It would be popular even if this restaurant was in the Southern states. The server was very nice as well. It's only 15mins drive from South Haven downtown. Skip the lines in the city and drive here. It's really worth it.
--Revisited this restaurant in August 2025. They are now open for breakfast and lunch. I got to taste their burger, fried chicken sandwich and biscuits with gravy. They are all so good. Fried chicken sandwich was so crispy and the balance of saltiness and acidity was perfect. The burger was so buttery. The meat had really good flavor. If I lived close to the restaurant, I'd go back there...
