EDIT: 1st time visit, have never been to this location before tonight. Went here because i heard all the hype about how good it was. got there early so there was no wait, got a table for 7 put together right away and sat down. Service was decent, server had an electronic device to take orders. Not impressed. Asked for the SM Tri tip medium to medium well. baked potato loaded in a separate bowl, and cole slaw. (2 sides plus a house salad.) House salad was the best part of the meal. was lucky enough she came back for drink orders not to have an empty bottle of beer, some of the others weren't so lucky as the glasses were empty and no server to be found. Food get there and its a complete shit show. runners don't know what plate goes where and what side goes with which person. Mind you its still not busy. out of the 7 people , i think 2 got the correct orders, which were chicken strip / fries and a sandwich / fries. really not hard to mess that up. Food: The tri-tip is a joke because they ask you how you want it and when it comes out, its clear its been in a hot pan for hours by the look and texture of the meat. Three people got tri tips all in the medium range and it came out well done and tasting like a hot wet sponge. the potato was over heated in the microwave to the point where you couldnt remove it from the foil without getting burned. Coleslaw was crisp but filled with a watery vinegar dressing that resembled slaw sauce in no way what so ever. Dessert: Daughter ordered a an apple cobbler, whis is really a personal sized apple pie, and tasted like sweet garbage. half of it was cold, the other half mediocre hot. the filling wasn't even melted enough to go with the test of the "personal pie" and served in a tinfoil hat like a stoffers pot pie. Service was decent at best, server came back a few times, don't know how many tables she had but for being there over an hour, i would think 3-4 visits would be more than enough, which didn't happen. We went there because the wife wanted to go for her birthday, had never been and ordered the little meatloaf, with no gravy, onion rings and whatever else. she got one (ONE) whole onion ring, meatloaf that was covered in grave then they obviously tried to take it off. I wont even get into the fact that that her parents ordered the tri tip, medium and it came out over well done, soggy meat and just terrible. they messed up everyone's sides except for chicken and sandwich baskets, and then offered nothing for the mistakes. Lucky they ogt one whole star for a first time visit. Black Bear diner needs to get their act together and server food that hasn't been sitting around for 2 hours or GTFO. Foor me, will not be back, ever. put the closed sign on the door and get a restaurant in there that has better quality of food and service.

Read moreMe and my wife were really excited because of a previous experience at a Black Bear Diner in CO, Springs and unfortunately we were pretty disappointed.
My wife got the fish and chips which were initially sent out without the chips, we had to ask our waiter if it was supposed to be that way. The fish itself was sub par, and the fries were the best part.
I ordered the Parmesan Burger and the patty was above average, however they sent it out without the Dijon mustard which is one of the main ingredients that make it special, all without telling me until I took a bite and noticed it was regular yellow mustard instead of Dijon.
They took it back to make it the same way again without offering to switch it with something else (I had to ask) and without leaving me anything to munch on while they remade it.
So I decided I didn't want the same burger made the same way for the same reason I wanted it fixed in the first place, and I asked if I could exchange it for something else.
I had them make me the Bacon Cheddar burger which is supposed to have thick cut bacon and thousand Island dressing. The burger came out with crispy bacon pieces instead of thick cut slices like the description insinuated, and the vegetables they topped it with was chopped salad instead of a leaf of lettuce and a slice of onion. There was so little thousand island dressing I couldn't even tell it was there and had to put some of their chipotle hot sauce to give it a little extra flavor.
To top it all off their "ranch" that I ordered to dip with my fries was more like a cup of cream than anything else.
They did not offer a discount, I had to ask for one, and though they didn't make me pay for the extra burger they only took 30% off our bill instead of comping my meal.
All in all we probably won't get sick, but we probably won't come...

We stopped by Black Bear Diner in the late afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by how clean, quiet, and cozy the place was. Our waitress, Jessica, took our order promptly and returned quickly with our meals.
I ordered the Prime Rib (available on Fridays and Saturdays), and my wife had the chicken fried steak. Her dish was excellentâperfectly cooked, tender, and free of the usual gristle. The gravy was spot-on, and the mashed potatoes were an absolute masterpiece. YUMMM!
Now back to my mealâwhile the sweet potato fries and onion rings were cooked to perfection, the Prime Rib was a disappointment. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out dry, cold, and well done.
Jessica had been attentive at first, but after our food arrived, it took a while for her to check back in. By the time I was able to explain the issue, I had already eaten most of my sides. Once I brought it up, she responded quickly and brought out a new Prime Ribâthis one was absolutely perfect: juicy, tender, and full of flavor. I had planned to take half of it home but couldnât stop eating. It was huge and incredibly tasty!
Overall, it was a great experience. If the Prime Rib had been done right the first time, it wouldâve been a 10-star meal from the start. While the delay in follow-up was a minor downside, the kitchen was the root of the issue. Jessica redeemed it all by making sure the replacement was spot-onâshe even asked me to cut into it before she left to make sure it was right. That attention to detail goes a long way.
Still giving it 10 stars. Glad to have Black Bear Diner in...
